    Exceeded our expectations! 🚐 🍷

The Concierge team and I at Horizon by SkyCity had the pleasure of experiencing this wonderful tour, and it truly exceeded our expectations. A special thank you to Nicole, our Senior Concierge, for organising such a fantastic experience, and an enormous shout-out to John, whose passion, knowledge, and personal insights into New Zealand wine made the day truly memorable. The wine tasting at Kureu River Winery, personally hosted by John, was exceptional. He took the time to guide our team through the different grape varieties and taught us how to properly appreciate and experience wine from observing its colour and aroma to understanding how to taste and savour its unique characteristics. His knowledge and enthusiasm brought the whole experience to life, including insights into the winemaking process behind the scenes. John also went above and beyond by personally arranging a special visit to The Hunting Lodge, which kindly opened its doors specifically for us during the winter period. This thoughtful gesture made the experience even more unique, and the entire team genuinely appreciated the effort that went into making our day so special. It was a fantastic experience from start to finish, and we will certainly be recommending NZ WinePro to our guests at Horizon by SkyCity. John went above and beyond, and we couldn't have asked for a better wine experience. Highly recommended!

Response from the operator: Hi Georgia, Thank you so much for this amazing review. I appreciate the detail and the feedback on the Vineyards Honey & Black Sand beach Tour. For clients staying in Auckland, this is a wonderful tour and it gets stellar reviews. It has been extremely popular over the last 24 years. Having worked for a winery many years ago prior to starting this business I learned all the wine making processes and on my tours enjoy imparting some of that knowledge and insight because I find it fascinating. I'm so pleased the team enjoyed the tour and that it was a great scenic, wine and cuisine experience for them to be able to recommend to your guests. Thanks so much for your positive feedback and taking the time to so eloquently share this on TripAdvisor. Best regards - John McFarlane

    Excellent tour!

The Vineyards, Honey and Black Sand Beaches tour we did with John was one of the best things we did on our trip to Auckland. The tour length was just right, and all the stops were interesting and enjoyable. Our lunch was lovely, as well. Not only was John very knowledgeable about Auckland and the surrounding areas, he is truly an expert on all things wine. (And an all around interesting person.) I have done many wine tastings and winery tours in the US and internationally, but never one this interesting and informative. In addition to the wineries and our lunch, we also enjoyed the gorgeous Muriwai cliffs and beaches. We were also able to see - and hear - the gannets in their breeding colony on the cliffs. You can’t go wrong with his tour. Thank you John!

Response from the operator: Hi Cate, Thanks for your fantastic review and I'm so pleased you considered your tour one of the best things you did while you were in Auckland. Being one of the only wine tour guides with a background in wine before I started my business 24 years ago certainly gives me a degree of elevated knowledge not only about New Zealand Wine, but wine styles and regions from all over the world, many of which I have visited more than once. So thanks for your generous praise and thanks for posting your positive feedback for others to read on TripAdvisor. Vineyards, Honey and Black sand Beach

What a great day we had on the North West Coast near Auckland! Our tour guide John was wonderful lively narrator. He knows about the Wine industry! We got a behind the scenes wine tour! We had lovely food, all the cellar door staff were friendly and helpful! The black sand beach was beautiful in a desolate way! Recommend this tour!

Response from the operator: Thanks for your great review. I am delighted the tour met with your best expectation and that all the inclusions and winery people treated you well. Muriwai is a dramatic place to visit all seasons... Halcyon in summer, ethereal and brooding in winter. I do hope you'll follow NZWINEPRO® on Instagram or Facebook to stay in touch Kindest regards John McFarlane

    Great tour

John is extremely knowledgeable about the production of wine. He has a personal relationships with wineries which allowed us exclusive access to a winery’s behind the scene production. You’ll come away with a new appreciation for how wine is produced. We had lunch at a beautiful winery, the food, and wine were very good. The staff were very friendly and courteous. We saw a wide range of beautiful country during the tour. John’s knowledge of the area was very informative. Be prepared to sample a lot of good New Zealand wine! This was the best tour during our two week cruise.

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Auckland.

How much does Vineyards Honey and Black Sand Beaches from Auckland cost?

    +

Prices start at $295 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Auckland usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Vineyards Honey and Black Sand Beaches from Auckland take?

    +

Plan for about 6.3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Auckland is not rushed.

Is Vineyards Honey and Black Sand Beaches from Auckland worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 100 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Auckland, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Vineyards Honey and Black Sand Beaches from Auckland?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Vineyards Honey and Black Sand Beaches from Auckland suitable for kids and families?

How far in advance should I book Vineyards Honey and Black Sand Beaches from Auckland?

    +

Around 35 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Auckland can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Auckland and add a light layer if any part of the 6.3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Vineyards Honey and Black Sand Beaches from Auckland start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Auckland within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Auckland?

    +

On Outty we rank every Auckland experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Hobbiton & Waitomo Caves Guided Day Trip from Auckland incl lunch, Hobbiton Movie Set Small Group Tour with Cheeky Kiwi Travel, Hobbiton & Waitomo Glowworm Caves Tour with Lunch from Auckland. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Auckland?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Auckland?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
