What you get

    About this experience

Lower Austria is the cradle of Austrian viticulture, so we want to take you to the beautiful forests & vineyards of the Thermal Region, just south of Vienna. Home to traditionally quaint wine villages and some unique local varietals, we showcase the finest in farm-to-table Austrian wine tours. In summer, we'll hike through these foothills to the alps along forested trails, as well as through lush green vineyards on their southern facing slopes. We'll stop en route to appreciate some beautifully expansive views over the forest canopy & the Vienna basin over to Hungary & Slovakia, before reaching one of Austria's oldest wine villages for lunch and a winery visit. In the winter time, instead of the hike, we visit two wineries to focus our attention more on the history of Thermal Region wine making, and on meeting a local vintner to learn about modern day wine production - all with glasses of the best the region has to offer in our hands, of course!

Venture Vienna Tour of Vienna Woods and wine country

This was one of the great experiences of our trip. The weather was perfect, the vineyards were dressed in their beautiful fall colors, the hike was uphill in the beginning and then once into the vineyards, it was mostly level. James is a fantastic guide and checked the pace with us several times (we're old and able to keep up). James informed us about various sites and is well-informed about this area of Austria and its vineyards, winemakers, and regional wines. Topped off with a wonderful lunch and a private wine tasting at Weingut Biegler. We just enjoyed a Biegler Pinot Noir last night. Highly recommend that you book this tour.

One of our best adventures ever!

My family and I had a truly memorable experience on this tour. We saw amazing views of the Austrian countryside, walked through actual working vineyards, ate some great local cuisine, and tasted some delicious local wine during a tasting hosted by the owner himself sitting in his beautiful courtyard. What made the day truly special though was our guide (James). He took the time to talk to all four of us, shared tons of facts about the region and the wine (as well as his own personal stories), and provide top-notch translation at the winery. He made sure that we were enjoying ourselves and made us feel like we were talking to an old friend. The only caution is that the five+ mile hike contains some steep uphill and downhill sections, so be prepared for that. We would highly recommend this tour!

Had an amazing time at this tour. James the guide was awesome, and the woods and the vineyards were amazing even though I got a sunburn (so dont forget your sunscreen!). The second part - the wine tasting - was also great and I'm not even a wine person! This tour, the views, and the whole experience will stay in my memory for a long time (I think its gonna be my new 'happy place'), and I definitely recommend it! Thank you James and everyone who's been in our group!

    Amazing experience!

My husband and I did the Vienna Woods Hiking and Wine Tour and we loved it! James was our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable and friendly. We met in the morning and rode the train with James and the group to Baden where our hike started. Our group was small, which made the tour feel intimate and exclusive. James was able to give each of us individual attention, answering questions and ensuring that everyone felt included and engaged. The views were beautiful and we learned a lot about the local culture, the towns we hiked through, vineyards, the art of wine making, and the final product itself. We 100% recommend this AMAZING experience!

Book This Tour! Totally worth it.

James was incredible! He met us at the train station, and we rode a train 30 minutes to this adorable little town outside Vienna. He was knowledgeable and really made us feel comfortable during the trip. We went in the winter so we didn't do the hike and instead he planned a second wine tasting for us! Which I rather prefer anyway! I would definitely recommend booking this tour. Totally worth it to see the country outside of the main city.

Vienna Woods Wine Tour - Wines, Vines & Good Times!: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Vienna.

How much does Vienna Woods Wine Tour - Wines, Vines & Good Times! cost?

    +

Prices start at $149 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Vienna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Vienna Woods Wine Tour - Wines, Vines & Good Times! take?

    +

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Vienna is not rushed.

Is Vienna Woods Wine Tour - Wines, Vines & Good Times! worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 77 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 33 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Vienna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Vienna Woods Wine Tour - Wines, Vines & Good Times!?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Vienna Woods Wine Tour - Wines, Vines & Good Times! suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Vienna Woods Wine Tour - Wines, Vines & Good Times!?

    +

Around 12 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Vienna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Vienna and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Vienna Woods Wine Tour - Wines, Vines & Good Times! start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Vienna within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Vienna?

    +

On Outty we rank every Vienna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Authentic Vienna Food Tour inc. lunch, street food, 3 drinks, Vienna Food Tour: Coffeehouses, Markets, Lunch & Street Food, Budapest Small-Group Day Trip from Vienna. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Vienna?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Vienna?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
