Very poor value for money and badly organised

We booked a particular time for this tour as we were due to fly home later the same day. After booking we were told the time had been pushed forward by 30 minutes. We felt that we still had time to take the tour and still arrive at the airport without a rush. However, on the day of the tour, we received a text message to say that the time of the tour was indeed the original time. We made our way to the meeting point for the originally booked time only to be told at that stage that it was the later tour we had to go on. So what could we do but wait. However, our guide turned up 20 minutes after the new scheduled time and then spent another 10 minutes sorting out headphones. Even then the quality of the sound to the headphones was very poor. By this time we were extremely anxious about the time it was taking and we finally entered the Basilica 40 minutes after the new time. The tour itself was poor. The guide spent quite a lot of time encouraging us to go on other tours and not concentrating on the tour we were on. The tour lasted 30 minutes in total and we paid around £86 for three of us. Very poor value for money. Another thing we weren’t told at any stage is that we had to pay an extra €10 each to see the altar and another €10 each to go to the balcony and see the views. All in all, this is a tour I would not recommend. Find other operators or plan ahead and buy tickets directly on the Basilicas own website.

    Poor directions for meeting point

Unfortunately we were misdirected to the start point, therefore late to arrive and missed out tour spot, although we followed directions given on the confirmation email. We spent over half an hour going to the incorrect meeting point and then back to the correct one. Very disappointed.

Meditative St. Mark’s Basilica , Venice

Very polite and cooperative staff . Admission Fee is very reasonable. We possibly spent 3 hours and I think , that is justified. We had reached around 20 minutes earlier to the opening time , as that was our fixed entry time ticket. You may laugh but go with sandals or chappals , so that you can FEEL the floors! Marbles are used and have not made an attempt to be mirror image . Instead very judiciously have used natural patterns and have harmonised . Tile works are to be seen from far and gradually from near. Sheer painstaking devotion. Do have a look at Jesus made from Ivory . Stroll slowly to absorb the Architecture.

Response from the operator: Dear guest, thanks a lot for the positive feedback about the tour and for choosing us. We are glad to know that everything went well and we hope to see you again in Venice very soon! Best regards, Customer Care Team

Venice St. Mark's Basilica - The Legacy of the Roman Empire™: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Venice.

How much does Venice St. Mark's Basilica - The Legacy of the Roman Empire™ cost?

    +

Prices start at $8 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Venice usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Venice St. Mark's Basilica - The Legacy of the Roman Empire™ take?

    +

Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Venice is not rushed.

Is Venice St. Mark's Basilica - The Legacy of the Roman Empire™ worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 42 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.2/5 across 154 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Venice, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Venice St. Mark's Basilica - The Legacy of the Roman Empire™?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Venice St. Mark's Basilica - The Legacy of the Roman Empire™ suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Venice St. Mark's Basilica - The Legacy of the Roman Empire™?

    +

Around 54 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Venice can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Venice and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Venice St. Mark's Basilica - The Legacy of the Roman Empire™ start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Venice within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Venice?

    +

On Outty we rank every Venice experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Pasta and Tiramisu Cooking Class with Wine in Venice, Eating Venice Small Group Food & Drinks Tour, Venice Bacaro Food Tour: Eat and Drink like a Venetian. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Venice?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Venice?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
