Great experience - expect the following: dirt, lots of climbing to get in and out of Jeeps, and extreme sound levels
Overview: Unique and great experience where you learn how to operate a highly modified 4x4 Jeep to handle extreme terrain including crawling up seemingly impassible rock formations. This involves learning how to drive the Jeep yourself, not just riding along as a spectator. If you’re not a gear head, this may not be for you. Arrived at 7:05 a.m. at the designated pickup site (an off road truck shop in a warehouse area). Tim provided a quick safety and liability briefing, and we headed out by 7:30. The drive from the shop to the Moapa valley area is about an hour. Driving a soft top heavily modified Jeep is not pleasurable. Our Jeep was not safe and impossible to control on the highway because (as we found out later) the staff had not secured the sway bars for on-road use. Tim was a great instructor. Learning to rock crawl is challenging but completely possible with a good instructor. We immediately tackled a seemingly impossible narrow rock canyon. The experience was exhilarating! After rock crawling, we also took on other terrain including very steep washouts, sand dunes, and a fun sandy hill climb. Overall duration: about 5 hours Value: For use of a heavily modified Jeep and instructor, $900 for two of us was reasonable. Gas station sandwiches and chips were included for a light lunch. Factors to consider before you book: (1) Plan on getting dirty and dusty and smelling like fuel by the end of the trip. (2) These Jeeps are horribly loud! We used a decibel meter app on our iPhones, and at highway speeds we consistently exceeded 105 decibels. We exposed to 100-105 decibel levels for the whole drive out and the return. At these levels, hearing damage is guaranteed. We recommend taking your own hearing protection.

What a Blast!
Valley of Fire was a fantastic playground for rock crawling, from beginner to expert and the weather was perfect. I never had the opportunity to do natural rock crawling (only man-made obstacles and wooded trails) and was amazed at the capability of the Jeep (and myself!). Carl, our guide was excellent! The drivers on our trip were novices and he did a great job of explaining the terrain and spotting us through unbelievable obstacles. I will do it again ask for him if we vacation in the area.

Response from the operator: This is a duplicate review from the same couple who posted on September 23rd with a similar complaint. As this refers to the same tour and incident, we respectfully request that this review be removed since the issue has already been addressed. The customers have been fully compensated for their expenses, and all confirmations have been sent. We are truly sorry the tour did not work out as planned. However, this is the same couple who posted the "Waste of Space, DO NOT USE THEM" review on September 23, 2024.

Waste of space, FO NOT USE THEM.
We booked this trip mid August to do on the 12th September. We paid in full, filled all the forms out etc. On the 11th September we got an email saying "see you tomorrow at 06.45 leaving at 07.00. I replied agreeing. We got a cab there and the place was shut. No 4x4's ready to go. We couldn't contact them because we had no data. Luckily for us the cab driver was very understanding. He could have easily dropped us off and gone. He used his phone to ring them, no reply. Took us back to the hotel. Aa soon as we got wifi I messaged them getting a reply saying "we open at 9.00 blah blah blah" Eventually we get a response saying "I got my days crossed" Seriously, you only sent us a message the previous afternoon. We asked for a refund which they did through PayPal so now we are £100/$112 light and they don't give a toss. Bang on about "please forgive me for forgetting/please find it in your heart etc etc for me forgetting you had this trip booked especially when I knew you had got married and this was a special trip for you both" Well no, sadly not you ruined pur plans and expect us to be at a loss financially. Anyone planning on booking with these clowns, DON'T find a company that actually values its customers.
Response from the operator: We deeply regret the unfortunate experience you had and understand your disappointment. We fully refunded the amount paid in US dollars, including covering your taxi fare for the inconvenience. The discrepancy in the refund is due to a currency exchange issue, which is beyond our control .Our bank has confirmed that the entire amount was refunded in US dollars, and the shortfall comes from the exchange rate. We’ve provided you with the necessary contact information for the bank, and the Cardholder, who made the payment, will need to contact them as we have replied to all your emails with this information. Despite our sincere apologies and efforts to address your concerns professionally, we have received several threatening emails and slanderous remarks from you. We have always approached the situation with compassion and have done everything in our power to assist you. We’ve apologized many times and directed you toward the proper solution, but we understand you remain disappointed. Please know that we never anticipated or planned for anyone to miss a trail, and we take great pride in our customer service. We truly care about our customers and are sorry that this incident left you feeling otherwise. We truly hope you’re able to resolve the currency exchange issue with the bank, and that this helps clear up any outstanding concerns. This is the first time we've encountered a situation like this, and we sincerely regret that it has caused you to feel this way.

Why this scores 58
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Valley of Fire Self-Drive Off-Road Jeep Tour with Lunch: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Las Vegas.
How much does Valley of Fire Self-Drive Off-Road Jeep Tour with Lunch cost?
+
Prices start at $199 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Las Vegas usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Valley of Fire Self-Drive Off-Road Jeep Tour with Lunch take?
+
Plan for about 5.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Las Vegas is not rushed.
Is Valley of Fire Self-Drive Off-Road Jeep Tour with Lunch worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 16 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Las Vegas, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Valley of Fire Self-Drive Off-Road Jeep Tour with Lunch?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Valley of Fire Self-Drive Off-Road Jeep Tour with Lunch suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Valley of Fire Self-Drive Off-Road Jeep Tour with Lunch?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Las Vegas can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Las Vegas and add a light layer if any part of the 5.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Valley of Fire Self-Drive Off-Road Jeep Tour with Lunch start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Las Vegas within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Las Vegas?
+
Las Vegas sells two trips at once: the Strip after dark, and the red-rock desert that starts twenty minutes past the last casino. Helicopter runs to the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam half-days and Red Rock Canyon drives all leave early, while show tickets, speakeasy crawls and high-roller dining fill the evening. Outty Ranking weighs operator reliability heavily here, because the gap between a well-run desert tour and a coach-and-queue version is enormous. On Outty we rank every Las Vegas experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Small Group: Valley of Fire Half Day Tour from Las Vegas, Small Group Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, 7 Magic Mountains VIP Tour, Grand Canyon West, Hoover Dam Stop, Breakfast, Lunch & Skywalk. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Las Vegas?
+
October to April. Summer highs above 105F make midday outdoor tours punishing. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Las Vegas?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
