Learn about the history of the train station. See the famous arrival hall built for princess sissi. We step back in time 100 years. It's not as beautiful as the frescoed Lotz Hall, which serves as the treasury, but the eclectic style of the ballroom is still surprising and impressive. It can be seen that it has been neglected for a long time, but the Greek-style supporting columns, the huge window frames, the marble coverings, and the carved wooden coverings recall the old glorious past.

Orczy tér in Józsefváros is somehow an unfortunate symbol of traffic disorder. Its renewal has been in the plans for decades, but its implementation is often delayed. In the eyes of many, it is a confusing, disreputable enclosure, an opaque set of tram tracks and sidewalk islands. Over the decades, the region has faced numerous social problems, which were compounded by the mass of commuters flowing through. You will have the oppoutinty to visit the heart of this mess, the Csobánc Társasház was designed by the award-winning György Kévés, he created a striking, "complex architectural work", whose characteristic brick architecture with numerous arches strongly evokes the early modern architectural world of 1910. See the unusual Kokárda Catacomb, memorial and underground chapel at the center of this project, which commemorates the failed revoltuins 1848 and 1956. Hear how this new housing complex marked the start of a very painful gentrification for this area.

The fortress-like apartment block was home to three thousand workers when it was built – but the apartments, which have a room and kitchen, were built by the MÁVAG (Hungarian Royal State Iron, Steel and Machine Works) to provide the best care and conditions of the time for their workers: there was a bathhouse, a canteen, a laundry, a doctor's office, a kindergarten, a public market. Truly a bizzare tour, I was very skeptial but learnt a lot, great for anyone wanting to see the real Budapest.
Excellent and unusual tour. We started at the train station, which is quite run-down, and were given a guided tour of the train station. I was very skeptical at first, but the guide showed us a beautiful hidden arrival hall for Sisi and pointed out many other features, W3 then headed to the police museum, where we were given a mini tour and some time to look around alone. The cemetery by far was the best and I could of spent the entire day there. Victoria has a very quirky sense of humour, and got us postcards of the cemetery. We then headed through the gypsy ghetto, with very run-down buildings and finished at the Chinese market, which is the most bizarre place I've ever visited, where we sat for drinks in a hippy ruin bar. Wear good shoes, Victoria walks fast and be prepared for a very academic experience.

A totally unique & authentic tour
This is a unique, one-of-a-kind Budapest tour. We wanted to see the 'seedy' side of the city. District VIII is historic, interesting, and really different from the rest of the city. This is definitely for travelers who want an authentic experience beyond massive tourist crowds and shallow perfect-selfie seekers. I don't want to give stuff away, but I'll share a partial spoiler: there are Russian guards in one section of this district - to this day! This is just one fact that blew me away on this tour out of about a dozen. Be prepared to walk. We clocked some miles, so wear comfortable shoes. I can't recommend this walking tour enough. Go to the notorious Józsefváros area with Victoria or Peter (we had both guides, which is rare). We learned so much, and we are grateful. 🙏🌍✌️

Had a great tour with...
Had a great tour with Victoria. She was very knowledgeable, smart and funny. Took us around the district to the piloce museum which was very interesting but beware that there are are lot of grim pictures when reading about Hungarian criminals. On to the cemetery which was beautifully kept and Victoria took us to some of the grave site of historical Hungarians and was very informative about practices in Hungary around death and burial. We then took a walk along to the Chinese market with some stops along the way to show us some of the tenement buildings and some information about the large Roma culture in the district. The Chinese market was our last stop which was massive. Again, a lot of tips and do's and don'ts. At the end of our tour we were shown how to get back to the city centre by tram and said our goodbyes. All in all a great tour and would totally recommend.

A different experience of Budapest
I enjoyed this tour so much! Victoria took me to several fascinating places I would most certainly have missed, as I am sure most tourists do. If you are willing to visit those areas away from the typical sights, book this tour. You will not regret it.

The guide was brilliant! She gave us so much information that would have taken us weeks to google, even then we would not have given the full spectrum that we were served. So interesting to hear about the hospital system and Hungarian culture overall. We highly recommend this tour!
