What you get

    About this experience

Side by side with the churches, palaces and streets that form the dense urban fabric of Naples, a parallel hidden city unfolds, made up of archaeological remains, crypts filled with skulls, amazing cloisters, streets and tunnels dug over the centuries into the soft tufa volcanic rock. Our journey to discover this fascinating - yet often neglected - side of Naples starts off from Via dei Tribunali. We will then come to the Forum, whose monumental ruins survive in the underground sections of the Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore. After a stop at the underground cemetery of the church dedicated to the souls in Purgatory, we will come to the monastery of Santa Chiara, built in the fourteenth century on the site of Roman baths. Then we will explore Via San Gregorio Armeno, a famous street where you can only find shops selling the celebrated "presepe," or elaborate sculpted cribs, as well as Spaccanapoli - the ancient street that traverses the old city centre.

    Discovering Naples underground

We participated in the tour of Naples underground run by Civitatis concerning the part of the Spanish quarter and we enjoyed it very much. The tour was very interesting with Edoardo explaining everything in a never boring interesting and engaging way. It was really good.

Response from the operator: Dear Illaria , Thank you so much for your kind words and for choosing Through Eternity Tours. We’re really happy to hear that you enjoyed your Naples underground tour and your time in the Spanish Quarter. It’s great to know that the guide made the experience interesting and engaging for you. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback, and we hope to welcome you again on another tour in the future. Warm regards, Through Eternity Tours

Private tour of Naples with Francesca - a must do

Francesca was our private guide for our tour, she was fantastic. We learnt so much more about the sights and had things explained and pointed out that we would have missed if we had taken ourselves around. Francesca was very knowledge and gave us some great tips on places to eat and other things to see, some of which we did after our tour. As Naples is Francesca hometown she provided a perspective which made the tour so much richer. We recommend booking a private tour of Naples with Francesca

Horrible not what we booked, or described

This is not the underground tour of Naples. Our tour guide took us to San chiari chrurch and monastery. We did not see the underground tour that we had booked for over 600 dollar for two people. It is a huge misrepresentation of the tour. Don’t do it ever!!!!!

Al fresco under the city of Naples

This experience among the tunnels of the underground city of Naples is beautiful. An "adrenaline" and claustrophobia-proof stretch (a detour that anyone with problems can easily avoid) but you would miss out on the spectacle of a fantastic cistern. Our guide, Michele, a very knowledgeable, engaging, nice person who guided us on this little adventure!

Underground Naples Tour: One City on Top of the Other: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Naples.

How much does Underground Naples Tour: One City on Top of the Other cost?

    +

Prices start at $171 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Naples usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Underground Naples Tour: One City on Top of the Other take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Naples is not rushed.

Is Underground Naples Tour: One City on Top of the Other worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 49 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Naples, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Underground Naples Tour: One City on Top of the Other?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Underground Naples Tour: One City on Top of the Other suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Underground Naples Tour: One City on Top of the Other?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Naples can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Naples and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Underground Naples Tour: One City on Top of the Other start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Naples within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Naples?

    +

On Outty we rank every Naples experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full Day Private Amalfi Coast Tour from Sorrento/Naples/Salerno, Caserta Royal Palace & Gardens Small Group Tour with Shuttle, Naples Pizza and Tiramisu Cooking Class. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Naples?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Naples?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
