A Disappointing Experience Marred by Racially Insensitive Comments

My review: I was extremely disappointed by a racially insensitive comment made by our tour guide , Tyler, during our visit to Uncle Nearest Distillery. During the tour, the guide shared that he had looked into his ancestry because he wanted to see if he might be related to Uncle Nearest. He then stated that he found out he was only “2.2%” Black and joked that the only thing that percentage allowed him to do was “jump.” At a distillery built around honoring the legacy of Nearest Green—a formerly enslaved Black man whose contributions to the whiskey industry went unrecognized for generations—this type of comment was especially inappropriate and offensive. We came to Uncle Nearest excited to learn about and celebrate an important piece of Black history. Instead, a joke based on a racial stereotype was casually inserted into that experience. Regardless of the guide’s intent, it was uncomfortable, unnecessary, and inconsistent with the history and legacy the distillery represents. I hope management takes this seriously and ensures that tour guides receive appropriate cultural sensitivity training. Uncle Nearest has a powerful story to tell, and every guest—particularly those who come because they value Nearest Green’s history and legacy—should be able to experience that story without being subjected to racial stereotypes disguised as humor.

Response from the operator: Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We understand your concerns and agree that Nearest Green's legacy is important and should always be treated with respect. Tennessee Whiskey Tours and Uncle Nearest Distillery are separate companies, and the distillery guides are part of their team. We take your feedback seriously and will share your concerns directly with Uncle Nearest management so they can address the situation appropriately.

Uncle Nearest Distillery Tour from Nashville + Whiskey Tastings: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Nashville.

How much does Uncle Nearest Distillery Tour from Nashville + Whiskey Tastings cost?

    +

Prices start at $145 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Nashville usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Uncle Nearest Distillery Tour from Nashville + Whiskey Tastings take?

    +

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Nashville is not rushed.

Is Uncle Nearest Distillery Tour from Nashville + Whiskey Tastings worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 77 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Nashville, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Uncle Nearest Distillery Tour from Nashville + Whiskey Tastings?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Uncle Nearest Distillery Tour from Nashville + Whiskey Tastings suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Uncle Nearest Distillery Tour from Nashville + Whiskey Tastings?

    +

Around 27 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Nashville can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Nashville and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Uncle Nearest Distillery Tour from Nashville + Whiskey Tastings start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Nashville within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Nashville?

    +

Nashville's activity mix is unusually music-heavy: Ryman and Opry backstage tours, RCA Studio B sessions, songwriter rounds and honky-tonk crawls on Broadway. Around that sit distillery runs to Lynchburg and general-admission pedal taverns. Outty Ranking penalises the crawl operators that oversell group size, which is the most common complaint in this city. On Outty we rank every Nashville experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Nashville: Authentic Food Tour with 5 Tastings of Local Dishes, Nashville's Wildest Honky Tonk Public Party Bus (21+), Nashville RCA Studio B & Country Music Hall of Fame Ticket Combo. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Nashville?

    +

April to May and September to October, when patios open and the humidity drops. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Nashville?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
