What you get

    About this experience

Over 15+ tastings, we'll cross Jakarta after dark from the historic lanes of Glodok and colonial Kota Tua to the neighbourhoods of Menteng. Feast on charcoal-cooked kerak telor, fiery ayam penyet, steaming beef bakso, smoky sate, aromatic soto Madura and wok-fired nasi goreng before finishing with steamed palm-sugar sweets. And getting between courses is half the fun. We'll travel like Jakartans by commuter train and tuk tuk, chasing street carts, charcoal grills and neighbourhood favourites across the capital. Four hours, 15+ tastings and one epic journey through one of Asia's great street-food cities.

    What you'll see and do

    1. Jakarta doesn't ease into the evening. As office towers empty and the tropical heat softens, pavements transform into open-air kitchens. Chinese settlers, Sundanese farmers, Javanese cooks, Arab traders and communities from across Indonesia have all left something simmering in the pot. Over four hours and 15+ tastings, we'll cross Jakarta from historic Glodok and colonial Kota Tua to Menteng and Central Jakarta, travelling by foot, commuter train and tuk tuk.
Before we get started, our tour reflects the local cuisine and the limitations of traditional eateries mean we unfortunately cannot cater for every dietary restriction. Here's an honest appraisal so nobody is disappointed: ✔ Suitable for lactose intolerance, no pork and no seafood diets. ⚠ Possible for gluten intolerance and mild nut allergies though some tastings will be unsuitable. ✖️ Unsuitable for pescatarian, vegetarian and vegan diets.

      30 minutes here

    2. Glodok Chinatown

We begin beneath the gates of Kawasan Pancoran Glodok, gateway to Jakarta's historic Chinatown. Chinese communities have traded here for centuries, bringing noodles, soy sauces and cooking techniques that became inseparable from the city's food culture. Our first bites take us to West Java. Soft cassava is stuffed with deeply savoury oncom, while crisp tapioca fritters bring plenty of crunch. Then comes telor gulung, the nostalgic street snack where ribbons of egg are twirled around bamboo skewers. We'll settle into steaming bowls of bakso, tender beef meatballs swimming in clear, aromatic broth, sharpened with white pepper, garlic and as much fiery sambal as you dare.

      60 minutes here

    3. Jakarta Old Town

Next, we'll cross into Kota Tua, the historic heart of what the Dutch once called Batavia. Colonial façades now provide the backdrop for some of Jakarta's most beloved street food. We'll watch kerak telor, Jakarta's signature Betawi snack, cooked over glowing charcoal, a smoky combination of glutinous rice and egg finished with its savoury toppings. Then comes crispy ayam penyet, crushed beneath fragrant green chilli sambal, followed by earthy petai with fried aubergine. Cooling glasses of sweet iced tea provide temporary relief before cilok Bandung, wonderfully chewy tapioca dumplings coated generously in rich peanut sauce. Old Batavia might provide the scenery, but tonight the street carts get top billing.

      45 minutes here

    4. Then we'll travel like Jakartans themselves. We'll board the city's commuter railway and head south before hopping into a tuk tuk to weave through Menteng, trading the old streets of Glodok for one of Jakarta's grandest neighbourhoods. Waiting at the other end are skewers of beef and chicken sate, kissed by charcoal smoke and lavishly coated in silky peanut sauce. Alongside comes soto Madura, an aromatic beef soup from the island of Madura whose fragrant broth has been restoring hungry Indonesians for years. In a city notorious for its traffic, getting between dinner courses is part of the adventure.

      60 minutes here

    5. There's still room for a few Indonesian classics. Smoky nasi goreng comes flying from a fiercely hot wok, the rice caramelising around the edges before landing on our plate. Then we'll watch little clouds of steam escape freshly made kue putu, pandan-scented rice cakes hiding molten palm sugar, followed by glossy green klepon that burst with warm syrup when you bite into them. After 15+ tastings, you'll have crossed neighbourhoods, culinary traditions and islands without ever leaving Jakarta. Many visitors know this enormous capital through its traffic and skyscrapers. We'd rather introduce you through its street food.

Ultimate Jakarta Food Tour with 15 Plus Authentic Tastings: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Jakarta.

How much does Ultimate Jakarta Food Tour with 15 Plus Authentic Tastings cost?

    +

Prices start at $31 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Jakarta usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Ultimate Jakarta Food Tour with 15 Plus Authentic Tastings take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Jakarta is not rushed.

Is Ultimate Jakarta Food Tour with 15 Plus Authentic Tastings worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 54 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (0/5 across 0 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Jakarta, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Ultimate Jakarta Food Tour with 15 Plus Authentic Tastings?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Ultimate Jakarta Food Tour with 15 Plus Authentic Tastings suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Ultimate Jakarta Food Tour with 15 Plus Authentic Tastings?

    +

Around 0 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Jakarta can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Jakarta and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Ultimate Jakarta Food Tour with 15 Plus Authentic Tastings start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Jakarta within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Jakarta?

    +

On Outty we rank every Jakarta experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tulamben Diving USS Liberty Shipwreck Scuba Dive, Jakarta Half-Day Guided Tour with a Private Fun Local Host, Active Volcano, Rice Field, Hot Spring, Fruit market, Tea Plantation with Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Jakarta?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Jakarta?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
