Ubud: Dance Show + Dinner at Lost City - Story of Humanity

Story of Humanity- still confused

To start, our cab drivers were not familiar with the location. They tend to be familiar with the places to go, don’t they? When we arrived, there were buildings with construction debris sprinkled around. We thought we were in the wrong place until one of my friends found Arthur who directed us on where to go. Well, the notation about this not being wheelchair accessible is an understatement. If you have foot, ankle, knee, hip, back or respiratory challenges I would avoid this venue. You must walk down several series of uneven stairs that are carved out of stone no handrails to hold onto and the rise on each step is challenging as well. I thought I was going to a dinner show, so I wore flat sandals with a long dress. Had I known I would have to hike down ...and later hike up...a long series of steps carved into a hill I would have worn sneakers and slacks. And make sure to bring your bug repellent as you are near a river once you reach the bottom of the hill. The seating was “in character” for an ancient city, but not comfortable at all. Wait are we in the Shire with the Hobbits? Your seat is a log of wood with a cushion. No back support. It was challenging to follow the concept of selecting a card, which indicated which spice would be used in the preparation of your meal. All guests were invited at once to form a line and make their selections for their meal. Much like a stir fry where you pick what you want and hand over to a chef to cook it for you. The meal itself was tasty and the staff was friendly. The show itself made no sense at all. I kept looking for a plot but never found it. I believe the author had a lot of good ideas that they wanted to convey about enjoying life, expressing gratitude and appreciating those you love. But the result was a disjointed mess of a show with a young lady strutting around the yard as a hen but yiping like a small dog. I was confused. I’m still trying to figure out the significance of the man wearing a monkey mask representing courage and high fiving the audience members.

Immersive, interactive, very fun

The show was great and the dancers and narrator worked hard to make it entertaining and interactive. From when you sit down a staff member comes to you and the interactive fun begins, including drawing a card from a deck that later on gives you a mix of spices to include in your dinner if you wish. Later on there’s multiple fire dances and opportunity to interact with them. The staff were all so lovely and welcoming and the food was really nice, including a complimentary snack and non-alcoholic shot of some sort! I went solo and still really enjoyed myself and can absolutely recommend this for groups or solo as an amazing experience.

Not worth the money or time!

I believe every experience has its audience — this one simply was not for us. We were expecting a refined fine dining experience paired with a high-end dinner show, similar to what you find in other premium tourist destinations. Unfortunately, the reality fell far short of those expectations. The staff and crew were friendly, welcoming, and always smiling, which was probably the highlight of the evening. However, the overall production, set design, and atmosphere felt surprisingly mediocre and lacked the quality and sophistication heavily implied by the promotional photos and reviews online. This was our final night in Bali, and we had hoped for a memorable and magical evening. Instead, it ended up being one of the most disappointing experiences of our trip. We ultimately decided to leave immediately after the show and skip the dinner altogether. The appetizers served beforehand were excessively oily and did not give us confidence in the rest of the meal. The seating arrangement was chaotic and uncomfortable, the ambient lighting was poorly executed, and the restroom facilities were honestly unsettling — outdated, poorly maintained, and not particularly clean. If you are looking for a truly premium or luxury-level experience in Bali, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. To be fair, our travel agency booked this based on the glowing reviews and curated marketing photos across multiple platforms, but in our opinion, those materials do not accurately reflect the actual experience. After reading several other reviews, it also seems the management may not respond particularly well to constructive criticism, so it will be interesting to see their response to this feedback.

Response from the operator: this is not the canned 5 star resort netflix style show. you are correct! The experience is IN the LOST City and is Interactive... for example, when you celibrated your birthday and you apperently seemed to appreciate it (guess we were wrong) and if you are expecting a Michelin-star dinner for $20, well... people have fun because they get to be part of the show, so the audience determines many of the outcomes or not. and when you get to do the fire dancing yourself (we saw you doing this and "apperently" enjoying it) that adds a second level of interactive entertainment... if your into that... guess we are not a match for your 5 star life... Lemuria is about gratitude. Love, courage, and Ego (the 4 guardians in the fire show). As to constructive criticism, we are not going to plasticize our interactive experience because of a misunderstood marketing for the Type of sophistication you expected... we are normal people trying to be better and share gratitude love, and courage with the world (and make it fun), not very sophisticated.

Great time

Started with delicious snack and welcome drink. Then an awesome interactive show and a delicious dinner! The cocktails are delicious as well
