Loved it
I really loved this, my dream came true. David was really nice and he also showed us a beautifull sunset at Ersfjordbotn. The Lights were amazing, not very crazy but still very visable. Thankyou very much

We went two days after...
We went two days after the time change—meaning it was staying lighter longer. We still boarded at 5:45 to leave at 6:00. We took a rest stop break-for 40 minutes which is ideal given how far we maybe needed to travel outside the city. We then had to stop for another 35+ minutes to wait for it to be dark. It was disappointing that so much of my evening was spent waiting for darkness when the start time could have merely been adjusted. Guides were great. Their willingness to try to find lights was good. They did run us over the allotted time trying for us which was nice. It was truly the seeming lack of time adjustment for the time change that was disappointing. Just a caution if you’re traveling around then
Response from the operator: Hi, thank you for your feedback. We really appreciate you taking the time to explain this. You make a fair point that, around the time change, it can feel early to leave while it is still light outside. The reason we do this is that we cannot always wait in Tromsø until it is fully dark before deciding where to go. On Northern Lights tours, the best route often depends on fast-changing cloud cover and weather conditions. Some evenings the best chance may be much farther away, for example inland towards Finland. If we waited in Tromsø until darkness before leaving, we could lose valuable time and arrive too late at the best location. The early departure is therefore not only about seeing the lights immediately after departure, but about being in the right area when darkness arrives. This gives the guides more flexibility to avoid city light pollution, react to the forecast, and choose the route with the highest chance of success.

Excellent excursion delivered with passion.
The ultimate dedication of the staff to find the northern lights was evidenced. David, our guide was passionate and committed, along with the driver who drive 3hrs out of Tromso to Finland in heavy snow for us. I didn't expect much as we had heavy snow but David and the driver never gave up, and we managed to get a beautiful show of lights. David kept us informed of progress and up to date with excitement. I would highly recommend this company.

Unexpected!
We were on the bus. 2 on 21st March 2026, the bus left for the venue on time at 6pm. After a while the bus stopped mid way around 8pm due to some technical glitch. We waited around 3 hrs to get another bus to reach the place. But again we were told by the guide that by then the weather was not clear and we will not be able to continue further. So unfortunately we had to return back without experiencing what we aimed for. The only purpose to visit Tromso was to watch the Northern lights but it was not meant to be, I guess. Refund awaited.

Tromsø: Northern Lights Safari with Expert Guides and Photos: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tromso.
How much does Tromsø: Northern Lights Safari with Expert Guides and Photos cost?
+
Prices start at $117 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tromso usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Tromsø: Northern Lights Safari with Expert Guides and Photos take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tromso is not rushed.
Is Tromsø: Northern Lights Safari with Expert Guides and Photos worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 65 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 92 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tromso, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Tromsø: Northern Lights Safari with Expert Guides and Photos?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Tromsø: Northern Lights Safari with Expert Guides and Photos suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Tromsø: Northern Lights Safari with Expert Guides and Photos?
+
Around 32 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tromso can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tromso and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Tromsø: Northern Lights Safari with Expert Guides and Photos start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tromso within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tromso?
+
On Outty we rank every Tromso experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Northern Lights Minibus Chase from Tromsø with Chasing Lights, Northern Lights Big Bus Chase with Chasing Lights, Tromsø Northern Lights Chase We Go Where The Lights Appear. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tromso?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tromso?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
