About this experience
Northern Lights in Focus is a small-group journey into the Arctic night, guided by people who live here and know how to read it. We leave the city behind and head into the wilderness, following weather forecasts, local knowledge, and real-time conditions to find the best possible place to experience the Northern Lights. There is no fixed route — every chase is shaped by clouds, light, and the Arctic itself. To keep you warm, insulated winter overalls are provided. During the night, we gather around a small campfire to enjoy a homemade meal, hot drinks, and a sweet treat. Your guide will capture portraits and aurora shots throughout the night. Free social media quality pictures are included, and print-quality versions are available for purchase. Whether the lights are strong or subtle, this is about sharing a real Arctic night together! Aurora appeared!
A fantastic evening and despite a disappointing forecast we were taken to a fjord around 1.5 hours from Tromso and the aurora danced across the sky. Luxurious minibus and picked up directly from outside our rental property. Staff very kind and knowledgeable. Top quality photos provided and tasty soup by the campfire.
Response from the operator: Dear kazza080, thank you so much for your lovely review, it truly means a lot to us! We’re especially happy that the aurora decided to show up and dance for you despite the tricky forecast, those are often the most magical nights ✨ It’s great to hear that you enjoyed the comfort of the minibus, the pickup, and the cozy campfire experience. Our team puts a lot of heart into creating a special evening, so your kind words about the guides, photos, and food really mean a lot. We hope to welcome you back in Tromsø one day for another adventure under the Arctic sky!

Great excursion - Michael...
Great excursion - Michael is a very knowledgeable guide, Joan a great photographer and Monika a very safe driver. It was an experience m, even though the aurora was not so strong. See you next time!
Response from the operator: Dear Andrea, thank you so much for your lovely feedback 😊 We are glad you enjoyed the excursion and that Michael, Joan, and Monika made the experience special for you. Even if the aurora was not at its strongest, it’s wonderful to hear you had a memorable time. We would be delighted to welcome you again on another adventure in Tromsø ❄️

Fantastic northern lights chase
I joined one of Blue Puffin's northern lights chasing tours as a last minute attempt to see the northern lights after no luck over three weeks of travelling, and I'm so glad I did! Not only was the tour very well run with a fantastic guide Linda and driver Maciej, we had incredible success with seeing the lights! Linda and Maciej managed to find a perfect spot by a frozen lake at the exact right moment for the clouds to part and for us to see an incredible aurora, complete with pinks, blues and purples. They worked so hard to find the right spot, and to ensure everyone got photos, kept warm and had food. I would (and have) recommended this tour to everyone coming to the Tromso area!
Response from the operator: Dear Laura, thank you so much for your wonderful review 😊 We’re so happy that your northern lights chase turned out to be such a magical experience after weeks of searching! Linda and Maciej will be delighted to hear your kind words—they always do their best to find the perfect spot, keep everyone warm, and make sure everyone gets great photos. It’s fantastic to know you enjoyed every moment, and we hope to welcome you back to Tromsø for another unforgettable adventure with us ❄️✨

Northern lights Tromso
Guides were wonderful, the northern lights were amazing, it was a great trip and we were here on a Viking cruise. Only complaint was there needs to be more toilets, but very happy!
Response from the operator: Dear Lindsey, Thank you so much for your kind words, we’re really happy to hear you enjoyed the experience. We truly appreciate your note about the toilets. As we often travel into remote areas and nature to find the best conditions for the Northern Lights, facilities aren’t always available along the way. That said, we always make sure to stop when possible, and nature itself can offer a quiet moment when needed. We’re wishing you a wonderful day! Warm regards, Your Blue Puffin Team

Outstanding tour
The tour was very well organized, and we were lucky enough to experience a clear night with active northern lights. We especially appreciated that the tour was bilingual. Our guide was very knowledgeable and could answer all kinds of questions about the northern lights. The campfire created a cozy atmosphere, and the soup was delicious. The thermal suits that were provided also worked very well. Toward the end, though, our feet got quite cold despite wearing boots. Therefore, I would recommend bringing extra-thick socks and warm shoes.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your review! We’re happy you got one of those clear Arctic nights, that’s never something we take for granted. And yes… cold feet are very real out there 😄 thanks for mentioning it, extra warm socks are always a good call! Hope the memories stay with you for a long time, and maybe we’ll see you again one day up here in the North!

Tromsø: Northern Lights by Minibus - Warm Dinner and Free Photos!: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tromso.
How much does Tromsø: Northern Lights by Minibus - Warm Dinner and Free Photos! cost?
+
Prices start at $244 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tromso usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Tromsø: Northern Lights by Minibus - Warm Dinner and Free Photos! take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tromso is not rushed.
Is Tromsø: Northern Lights by Minibus - Warm Dinner and Free Photos! worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 83 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 140 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tromso, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Tromsø: Northern Lights by Minibus - Warm Dinner and Free Photos!?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Tromsø: Northern Lights by Minibus - Warm Dinner and Free Photos! suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Tromsø: Northern Lights by Minibus - Warm Dinner and Free Photos!?
+
Around 49 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tromso can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tromso and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Tromsø: Northern Lights by Minibus - Warm Dinner and Free Photos! start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tromso within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tromso?
+
On Outty we rank every Tromso experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Northern Lights Minibus Chase from Tromsø with Chasing Lights, Northern Lights Big Bus Chase with Chasing Lights, Tromsø Northern Lights Chase We Go Where The Lights Appear. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tromso?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tromso?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
