According to the Inca mythology of this mountain and the nearby lakes – among which Sibinacocha stands out – gives birth to the masculine energy that fertilizes Mother Earth, Pachamama. After a long course, the waters are lost in the unknown lands of the Amazon, only to return to fill the lakes and glaciers every night, transformed into the River of Stars or Willkamayu, known in the West as the Milky Way. The Chillca community, composed of llama and alpaca herders, is known as the guardian of these pristine landscapes. From here, you can embark on mountain hikes, spending nights in comfortable lodges or tambos, with Machuracay Tambo standing out, in a trek known as the “Path of the Apu Ausangate.”

    What you'll see and do

    1. The collection of lagoons comprising this tourist attraction is fed by the melting snow of the immense Ausangate, the highest peak in Cusco (with its summit reaching 6,384 meters above sea level). The local communities decided to harness the natural beauty of the area by creating a circuit of 7 lagoons: Pucacocha Lagoon, Patacocha Lagoon, Alqacocha Lagoon, Qomercocha Lagoon, Otorongo Orco Lagoon, Otorongo Chinese Lagoon, and Cocha Blue Lagoon.

    2. Every year, on the northern side of Ausangate, the Qoyllur Rit’i festival (Quechua: “star snow”) has been celebrated since time immemorial before the Corpus Christi festival. During this event, thousands of Quechuas make a pilgrimage to the Lord of Qoyllur Rit’i in the Sinakara temple (a rock painting). This pilgrimage was included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

    Note 10 Tayra tours

I've traveled alone before, a few times, but this was my first time hiring a travel agency. The Tayra tours is extremely suitable and everything was clarified and explained in detail with a lot of patience by FIORELA (a dear), who attended me through channels here in Brazil. Without her and without her explanations, my trip would surely not have been as wonderful as it was. All the tours were great, very well organized and all very punctual. With Closed Eyes, I would hire Tayra tours and talk to FIORELA again!!!

    Travel Cusco

I made my first solo international trip with the help of Tayra. For years I had the dream of knowing Peru and with the Fiorella da Tayra it became possible and real. All I have to do is thank you for all the attention, care you've had with me from beginning to end

    Lack of responsibility to travelers

Bad experience, no commitment to the safety of people. This circuit requires attention and support, my luck was a couple of Brazilians who were together. Guide concerned only with the schedule, without any resource for first aid, extremely irresponsible. I had a severe hypothermia, and I was helped by the travelers themselves, while the guide took the backpack and went to the van. I canceled the tour of the colorful mountain, for seeing so much irresponsibility of them, and to close with a golden key, had the transfer from the airport, which said there was no return. Shame!

Trekking Through the 7 Lagoons of Ausangate: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cusco.

How much does Trekking Through the 7 Lagoons of Ausangate cost?

    +

Prices start at $45 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cusco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Trekking Through the 7 Lagoons of Ausangate take?

    +

Plan for about 14 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cusco is not rushed.

Is Trekking Through the 7 Lagoons of Ausangate worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cusco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Trekking Through the 7 Lagoons of Ausangate?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Trekking Through the 7 Lagoons of Ausangate suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 14-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Trekking Through the 7 Lagoons of Ausangate?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cusco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cusco and add a light layer if any part of the 14-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Trekking Through the 7 Lagoons of Ausangate start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cusco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Cusco?

    +

On Outty we rank every Cusco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sacred Valley Full Day Tour, Full-Day Humantay Lake Trek (Meals Included), Cusco: Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Premium Day Trip with Meals. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cusco?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cusco?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
