What you get

    About this experience

Wellness tourism has exploded around the world — but almost none of it looks like this. While most healing experiences are designed in hotels and performed for tourists, this one happens in the homes and hands of real Zapotec healers who have been practicing these traditions their entire lives — not for visitors, but for their own communities. The clean, the egg reading, the soul calling, the herbal bath — these are not demonstrations. They are the real thing, offered to you as a guest with the same care and intention given to the families who seek healing here every week. You will leave lighter, cleaner, and with a connection to Oaxaca that no archaeological site or mezcal tasting can give you. There is no other experience like this available to international travelers in Oaxaca.

    What you'll see and do

    1. Your experience begins with a welcome in Zapotec — the indigenous language spoken in this village every day — and a brief, moving introduction to the world of Oaxacan curanderismo : who the healers are, what they do, and why their role in the community is irreplaceable. Your curandera will then perform a full clean using bundles of fresh herbs swept across the body, copal smoke to cleanse the spirit, mezcal as a sacred element of purification, and candle flame to read the energy. This is followed by an egg reading, in which the healer interprets what the egg reveals about your physical and emotional state, and a soul calling — a ritual calling of the soul back to the body, used when a person has experienced fright, loss, or spiritual imbalance. Intimate, personal, and conducted with complete seriousness and care.

    2. Teotitlan del Valle

In the second village, a local family receives you as a guest in their home. Lunch is served — a light, nutritious, traditional meal made from ingredients grown and prepared locally, the kind of food that sustains communities here every day. After eating, each guest is invited into the tub bath : a large clay or wooden tube filled with warm water infused with medicinal herbs and flowers selected by the healer for their therapeutic properties. You'll soak as long as you need, followed by a gentle massage of the neck and shoulders to release tension accumulated in the body. The experience closes with a cup of herbal tea — a final, quiet moment to absorb everything you've felt and experienced before the journey back to the city.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oaxaca City and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Oaxaca City?

    +

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Oaxaca City?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Oaxaca City?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
