    Great trip

We were picked up on time (9am) from our hotel in the centre of Merida, for a private drive to Celestun. The drive lasted nearly 1.5 hours. The boat trip ( taking our family of 5 and another family of 4) was really enjoyable. We saw an iguana, crabs, pelicans, ospreys and reasonable numbers of flamingos, (even for early April, after many will have migrated), after a short walk over the mangroves and some soft mud. There was also time for a quick dip from the boat, in the shallows. Our guide had asked us about lunch and booked a table for us at a recommended beach restaurant, (as it was a sunday, busy with locals). We then could enjoy the adjacent sandy beach. We only had just over an hour at the beach, which seemed a bit short for our teenagers, who were enjoying the sea. We returned to the hotel for about 5pm. Not cheap, but a very enjoyable day. We could have brought a packed lunch to have more time on the beach, but the meal was really good.
