    1. Camp Hale

Camp Hale is a historic, 53,804-acre National Monument and former World War II military training ground located in the Colorado Rockies between Leadville and Minturn along U.S. Highway 24. Established in 1942, it was the training site for the U.S. Army's famed 10th Mountain Division.

      30 minutes here

    2. Red Cliff

Once a thriving mining depot, today Red Cliff has shut — but not forgotten — its saloons, brothels, and hotels; its art community prefers instead the quiet and beauty of the surrounding mountains. Locals' fave Mango's Mountain Grill draws folks near and far for its famous fish tacos.

      15 minutes here

    3. Minturn

Minturn is just minutes from Vail and Beaver Creek, but don't expect to find the same mega-resorts or super fancy restaurants. The town is 5 miles west of Vail along U.S. 24. amid the Holy Cross Wilderness Area and White River National Forest. Colorado 24, running through town, is also a part of the Top of the Rockies scenic and historic byway, offering stunning views along the way from Minturn to Red Cliff.

    EPIC Adventure

This trip was PERFECT! Our guide, Tyler was very friendly and informative. He took us through amazing trails that only 4x4s were made for. We got to see a side of the Rockies that not just anyone gets to experience! And then the EPIC views at the top of the mountains were absolutely spectacular!! We were also lucky enough to see some wildlife. I mean…what a memorable adventure! Thank you Tyler! Thank you Vail 4x4!

    Exciting

What an amazing experience! The Top of the Rockies Jeep Tour was one of the highlights of our trip. The views were absolutely spectacular, and the bumpy mountain terrain made the ride so much fun. It was the perfect mix of adventure and sightseeing. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and made us feel completely safe the entire time, even while tackling some pretty rugged terrain. We learned a lot about the area and got to see places and views we never would have experienced on our own. If you’re looking for a fun way to explore the Rockies and get a little off the beaten path, I highly recommend this tour. We would absolutely do it again!

    Beautiful Rockies

What a fun trip! Jon was an excellent driver and guide! He is so knowledgeable about national forests, pine trees, flowers, camp Hale, and so much. His skill navigating all the various roads we encountered - dirt, paved, rocky, narrow and steep was amazing! He also has a great easy going personality (mid westerners are the best) that made us all comfortable during our tour. The view from the top was breathtaking! We highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to have a one of a kind experience with nature and the beauty of Colorado!

Top of the Rockies Jeep Tour - Vail, CO: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Vail.

How much does Top of the Rockies Jeep Tour - Vail, CO cost?

    +

Prices start at $229 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Vail usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Top of the Rockies Jeep Tour - Vail, CO take?

    +

Plan for about 4.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Vail is not rushed.

Is Top of the Rockies Jeep Tour - Vail, CO worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 16 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Vail, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Top of the Rockies Jeep Tour - Vail, CO?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Top of the Rockies Jeep Tour - Vail, CO suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Top of the Rockies Jeep Tour - Vail, CO?

    +

Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Vail can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Vail and add a light layer if any part of the 4.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Top of the Rockies Jeep Tour - Vail, CO start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Vail within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Vail?

    +

Vail sells ski and snowboard lessons and rentals across its back bowls in winter, then hiking, gondola rides, jeep tours and rafting on the Eagle River in summer. On Outty we rank every Vail experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Half-Day Whitewater Rafting Upper Colorado River, Colorado River Whitewater Rafting: Half Day Trip, Vail and Beaver Creek Premium Ski Rental Including Delivery. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Vail?

    +

December to March for snow, June to September for alpine hiking. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Vail?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
