Lovely tour filled with passion for food

We loved our tour with Ronnie. She is very passionate about the food on the superb market. Thanks to her we found the best tuna sashimi, the juiciest oysters and the most delicious marinated cod. We topped our lunch off with a strawberry moochi to die for and lovely sake. Ronnie is charming, witty and caring. She is a great source on interesting information about the Japanese food culture. She is truly one of a kind. Totally recommended!!

A must if you want some control in the Tsukiji chaos

I would highly recommend this tour!! My parents and I had a wonderful time with Ronnie, our tour guide, who was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the Tsukiji market, what has changed with the market in the last few years with the pandemic and the Tokyo Olympics, the best stands to hit in the chaos (gotta try the miso cod), subtle recommendations that enhanced our experience (grinding the wasabi root ourselves), and smaller side markets that are both less crowded and possibly cheaper. The best part about the tour was that we were able to take our haul of goodies and sit at the 38KIOSK bar, which had incredible local energy and great drinks. This was one of the best things we had done on our trip to Tokyo — highly recommend doing this for any party to enhance your Tsukiji market experience!

Nao, our guide, was fantastic: knowledgeable and friendly. We will definitely recommend the tour to others. We are looking forward to the pictures he took.

    Saturday morning at the Market

We went on a Saturday morning before Christmas. The market was busy but managable. Later in the day it got more crowded. Our guide, Ronnie met us at the Temple main gate and walked us through the market pointing out unique food items that were being prepared for the holidays. She took us through the outer market and to some of the adjacent market place buildings where usually only restaurant owners and locals shop. It was so helpful to have her guide us through the market to explain what we were seeing and eating and to talk to the shop owners for us (we do not speak Japanese) After we did our walking and shopping, she took us to the small bar area owned by the tour company. There we sat and casually ate our food and drink. We met the bartender, Sean, and struck up a nice conversation with him as well. It was great experience and I highly recommend this to anyone who has never been to Tsukiji Market.

Response from the operator: DearMaki san we are thrilled that you found the tour helpful, especially with the language barrier and the holiday rush. I’ve shared your kind words with Sean as well—he was very happy to hear you enjoyed the conversation at the bar. We always strive to create a relaxing space for guests to enjoy their market finds, and I’m glad that was a highlight for you.Hope you can visit Japan again soon.

    Highlight of our trip

Touring Tsukiji Outer Market and a nearby temple and shrine with Risa was one of the highlights of our trip! We learned so much - about Buddhist and Shinto rituals - and of course food! We love visiting food markets wherever we travel and totally recommend going with Risa so you don’t miss things that you might otherwise miss without the insights of a local! We tried all kinds of food and took our favourites back to enjoy with a sake tasting at their affiliated bar in one of the little alleys right off the market - the perfect place to enjoy your delicious finds away from the bustle of the market streets. So nice to hang with you Risa and thanks for the excellent tips on where to eat in Niseko! See you next time!

Response from the operator: Thank you for the wonderful review! I am delighted to hear that the tour was a highlight of your trip. It’s always a joy to guide fellow food lovers who appreciate the cultural history behind the market and its surrounding shrines. I’m glad the Niseko recommendations were helpful, and I hope they lead to more delicious memories. Wishing you safe travels and I hope to welcome you back to Japow soon,

Tokyo Tsukiji Fish Market Food&Culture Walking Tour With a LOCAL!: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tokyo.

How much does Tokyo Tsukiji Fish Market Food&Culture Walking Tour With a LOCAL! cost?

    +

Prices start at $45 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tokyo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Tokyo Tsukiji Fish Market Food&Culture Walking Tour With a LOCAL! take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tokyo is not rushed.

Is Tokyo Tsukiji Fish Market Food&Culture Walking Tour With a LOCAL! worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 10 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tokyo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Tokyo Tsukiji Fish Market Food&Culture Walking Tour With a LOCAL!?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Tokyo Tsukiji Fish Market Food&Culture Walking Tour With a LOCAL! suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Tokyo Tsukiji Fish Market Food&Culture Walking Tour With a LOCAL!?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tokyo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tokyo and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Tokyo Tsukiji Fish Market Food&Culture Walking Tour With a LOCAL! start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tokyo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Tokyo?

    +

Tokyo is less a city than a stack of neighborhoods with completely different opening hours. A guided food crawl through Shinjuku's Omoide Yokocho gets you past the no-tourist curtains, while the day trips west to Hakone and Fuji need an early start to be worth the fare. Our ranking weighs guide quality heavily here, because in Tokyo the guide is the product. On Outty we rank every Tokyo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tokyo Shinjuku Chopsticks Making Class, Tokyo : Asakusa Chopsticks Making Class, Shinjuku Night Food and Bar Crawl. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Tokyo?

    +

Late March to May for blossom, October to November for clear Fuji views. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Tokyo?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
