A hidden gem, one of the best experiences in Tokyo

I normally don’t write reviews but this is simply an amazing experience. From the katana history to the sparring practice, every moment was engaging, fun, fascinating. Getting to fight against a professional actor and learning different stances and techniques is an unforgettable experience. I researched several other samurai experiences in Tokyo and this is without a doubt one of the best ones. Dai and Kume, thank you for this incredible experience

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We are truly honored that you described our samurai experience as “a hidden gem” and “one of the best experiences in Tokyo.” We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed learning about the history of the katana, practicing different stances and techniques, and experiencing sword action with us. We also sincerely appreciate that you researched several samurai experiences in Tokyo and chose ours. Knowing that you found it to be one of the best means a great deal to us. Thank you again for joining us and for your kind words. We hope to welcome you back someday! Samurai Instructors, Dai & Kume

    Samurai experience in Tokyo!

Dai-san and Kume-san were wonderful sensei’s for our Samurai experience! They were patient, friendly and highly skilled, including with young kids. We got to learn about the Kitana (samurai sword), disassemble and assemble one and basic kitana sparring techniques, all in a safe and fun environment. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We are truly happy to hear that you enjoyed the Samurai Experience with us. It was a pleasure training together with you and your family, and we are especially glad that even the kids had a great time. We hope the experience of learning about the katana, including disassembling and practicing, became a special memory of your trip to Japan. Please enjoy the rest of your journey, and we would love to train together again someday! Samurai Instructors Dai & Kume

    The best experience I had...

The best experience I had in Tokyo. I wrote a lengthier review on tripadvisor if you want to read it www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g1066444-d28879505-r1043095143

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are truly honored to hear that this was the best experience you had in Tokyo. I have visited London twice in the past, and I have many wonderful memories from my time there. If our samurai experience became a similarly good memory for you during your journey in Japan, that would make me very happy. We also sincerely appreciate you taking the time to write a detailed review on TripAdvisor as well. Your kind words mean a lot to us and motivate our team to keep sharing authentic samurai culture with guests from around the world. We hope your time in Japan continues to be filled with great memories, and we would be delighted to welcome you again in the future. Samurai Instructor Dai Mizuno

    Best experience in Tokyo

I booked this experience online via viator and it was one of the highlights of my trip. The team were incredible and made us all feel really welcome. Sense Dai was great at explaining it all and a great teacher. And when most experiences focus on learning simple moves or small things, they full on taught us how to spar as well as a series of attacks and defenses. It was a true training session and a great experience all around. If you are lucky and there is space in the session, you habe to attend it on your trip to Tokyo.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re truly happy to hear that the experience was one of the highlights of your trip to Tokyo. It means a lot to us. We focus on providing not just a simple activity, but a real training experience, so we’re especially glad that you enjoyed the sparring and the combination of attacks and defenses. We will share your kind words with the whole team — it really encourages us. We hope to welcome you again in the future. You’re always welcome back anytime! Thank you again for joining us. This was one of the highlights of our trip. Dai was the best hosts ever. What a pleasant, polite and wonderful guy! We had a blast. Would definitely do it again!

Response from the operator: Traveling together with your father-in-law is truly wonderful, and I’m honored that you chose our samurai activity as part of your special trip. Thank you again for your warm review. Your positive energy made the session even more enjoyable for me as well. If you ever return to Tokyo, please visit us again anytime. I would be very happy to train with you both again. Samurai Instructor Dai&Kume

Tokyo: Samurai Adventure! Authentic Sword Action Experience: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tokyo.

How much does Tokyo: Samurai Adventure! Authentic Sword Action Experience cost?

    +

Prices start at $6000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tokyo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Tokyo: Samurai Adventure! Authentic Sword Action Experience take?

    +

Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tokyo is not rushed.

Is Tokyo: Samurai Adventure! Authentic Sword Action Experience worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 20 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tokyo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Tokyo: Samurai Adventure! Authentic Sword Action Experience?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Tokyo: Samurai Adventure! Authentic Sword Action Experience suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Tokyo: Samurai Adventure! Authentic Sword Action Experience?

    +

Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tokyo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tokyo and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Tokyo: Samurai Adventure! Authentic Sword Action Experience start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tokyo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Tokyo?

    +

Tokyo is less a city than a stack of neighborhoods with completely different opening hours. A guided food crawl through Shinjuku's Omoide Yokocho gets you past the no-tourist curtains, while the day trips west to Hakone and Fuji need an early start to be worth the fare. Our ranking weighs guide quality heavily here, because in Tokyo the guide is the product. On Outty we rank every Tokyo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tokyo Shinjuku Chopsticks Making Class, Tokyo : Asakusa Chopsticks Making Class, Shinjuku Night Food and Bar Crawl. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Tokyo?

    +

Late March to May for blossom, October to November for clear Fuji views. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Tokyo?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
