Miscommunication between tour company and guides was very disappointing

There was a young tour guide who was very nice but didn’t seem like she knew the plan (we learned later she had no info from the company) and she was with an older gentleman who was very pushy and opinionated about what we should and shouldn’t do - he insisted there was no need to do the Tokyo sky deck which was included and enjoyed: he rushed us through team labs saying we would need to finish the whole tour by 6:30 even though our itinerary said 8pm. There is not much historical or cultural information shared. And overall it was a significant disappointment after spending so much money for our family of four. We have taken Tours from Viator for many years, and this was our single worst experience. The lady was incredibly nice and understood or frustration, but the older man was domineering and insistent and not listening to us when we tried to let him know that our expectations are different. Would not recommend this tour to anyone if it’s like what we did today. Very disappointed with Viator.

Myat was friendly and accommodating. Having a guide for Borderless is surprisingly useful.

Myat was very friendly, accommodating, and was willing to learn which was most appreciated. We mainly booked because it was the only way to get a ticket for Teamlabs Borderless which was sold out more than 6 weeks prior to travel for the dates I needed/wanted to go. It is very helpful to have a guide to Borderless who can make sure you hit every room but also have some inkling of where the photos should be taken. Most useful was that she essentially turned into our personal photographer, which was appreciated. The tour was quite expensive for a two hour experience which was one of the negatives. Part of why it may have been cut short was because our kids foolishly skipped breakfast and so were starving during and afterwards. So right after we were done we just ate right there in the same mall where Borderless was, and she certainly didn’t need to sit with us to watch us eat.

Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing such detailed feedback. We’re delighted to hear that Myat’s friendly and accommodating nature, along with her help navigating TeamLab Borderless and capturing wonderful photos, made your experience enjoyable. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again on a future visit to Japan!

Great tour, awesome tour guide!

This was a great way to see the museum. Our tour guide, Hibiki, knew this area of the city and was able to navigate us through the museum to make sure we didn’t miss a thing. She recommended a visit to the tea room inside the museum and it turned out to be our favorite part. We were impressed with all of the knowledge she freely shared about Tokyo and Japan in general. It was a joy to spend the afternoon with her.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed exploring the museum with Hibiki. She will be very happy to know that her guidance helped you make the most of your visit and that the tea room became your favorite part of the experience. We also truly appreciate your kind words about the knowledge she shared about Tokyo and Japan. It means a lot to us that you enjoyed spending the afternoon with her. Thank you again for joining our tour, and we hope to welcome you back to Japan again in the future!

Tokyo Private Tour: teamLab Borderless & Tokyo City View: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tokyo.

How much does Tokyo Private Tour: teamLab Borderless & Tokyo City View cost?

+

Prices start at $18000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tokyo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Tokyo Private Tour: teamLab Borderless & Tokyo City View take?

+

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tokyo is not rushed.

Is Tokyo Private Tour: teamLab Borderless & Tokyo City View worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tokyo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Tokyo Private Tour: teamLab Borderless & Tokyo City View?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Tokyo Private Tour: teamLab Borderless & Tokyo City View suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Tokyo Private Tour: teamLab Borderless & Tokyo City View?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tokyo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tokyo and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Tokyo Private Tour: teamLab Borderless & Tokyo City View start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tokyo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Tokyo?

+

Tokyo is less a city than a stack of neighborhoods with completely different opening hours. A guided food crawl through Shinjuku's Omoide Yokocho gets you past the no-tourist curtains, while the day trips west to Hakone and Fuji need an early start to be worth the fare. Our ranking weighs guide quality heavily here, because in Tokyo the guide is the product. On Outty we rank every Tokyo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tokyo Shinjuku Chopsticks Making Class, Tokyo : Asakusa Chopsticks Making Class, Shinjuku Night Food and Bar Crawl. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Tokyo?

+

Late March to May for blossom, October to November for clear Fuji views. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Tokyo?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
