We used Viator and they...
We used Viator and they booked us through City Unscripted who asks the questions and pairs you with a guide. We were matched with Justine and she was amazing! There were 5 of us and we all had an amazing time! Justine was able to help show us how to use the local transit and showed us amazing places as well as recommended many others! We got to see Tokyo Tower and book tickets to come back later, the Imperial Palace, Hama-rikyu Gardens, and Zojoji Temple. We walked a lot this trip and this was our highest step day!
Response from the operator: We're delighted to hear that you had such a great time exploring Tokyo with Justine. It's fantastic that she was able to help you navigate the local transit, show you some of the city's highlights, and share recommendations for the rest of your trip.

Katsu (Goreilo) is the way to go!
We had a half day tour with Katsu (Goreilo) in Tokyo. It was great - exactly what we wanted. Our main concern was getting around the subway and train system so we asked Katsu to make that education part of the tour. He took is to the Imperial palace, Meiji Shrine and Ueno Park by the local transportation. On top of that he took us to Tokyo station and explained how to get to Hiroshima on the bullet train. He was very patient and knowledgeable but most importantly he looked after us and made sure we understood what we were doing. We are not from an area with any type of public transportation so we were intimidated but after our time with Katsu we we confident enough to maneuver around the city and to different cities. I absolutely recommend using Katsu. I will guarantee our vacation would have been much more disappointing without him. This is the way to understand Tokyo. In addition we are not a young couple - we are in our early 70's but we were able to keep up but it was a great time for us.
Response from the operator: We’re thrilled to hear that your half-day experience with Katsu in Tokyo was exactly what you wanted. It’s fantastic that he was able to guide you through the subway and train system, show you key sites like the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, and Ueno Park, and even explain the bullet train to Hiroshima. We’re especially glad to hear that Katsu’s patience and knowledge helped you feel confident navigating the city and beyond. Your kind words about how he looked after you truly highlight the personal touch he brings to every experience.

Tomo was a great guide with her knowledge
Tomo was such a good guide. She answered all of our questions, showed us some amazing special areas in Tokyo. We loved that she helped us understand the traditions and rituals in the shrines and temples. Our favorite was her showing us how to use the subway and suica cards. We Highly recommend her.
Response from the operator: We’re also glad the guidance on using the subway and Suica cards made your experience more convenient. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and we hope to welcome you again on another experience in the future.

Why this scores 79
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Tokyo Private Half-Day Tour with a Local – Secrets & Highlights: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tokyo.
How much does Tokyo Private Half-Day Tour with a Local – Secrets & Highlights cost?
+
Prices start at $25 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tokyo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Tokyo Private Half-Day Tour with a Local – Secrets & Highlights take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tokyo is not rushed.
Is Tokyo Private Half-Day Tour with a Local – Secrets & Highlights worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 79 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 56 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tokyo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Tokyo Private Half-Day Tour with a Local – Secrets & Highlights?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Tokyo Private Half-Day Tour with a Local – Secrets & Highlights suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Tokyo Private Half-Day Tour with a Local – Secrets & Highlights?
+
Around 20 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tokyo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tokyo and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Tokyo Private Half-Day Tour with a Local – Secrets & Highlights start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tokyo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tokyo?
+
Tokyo is less a city than a stack of neighborhoods with completely different opening hours. A guided food crawl through Shinjuku's Omoide Yokocho gets you past the no-tourist curtains, while the day trips west to Hakone and Fuji need an early start to be worth the fare. Our ranking weighs guide quality heavily here, because in Tokyo the guide is the product. On Outty we rank every Tokyo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tokyo Shinjuku Chopsticks Making Class, Tokyo : Asakusa Chopsticks Making Class, Shinjuku Night Food and Bar Crawl. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tokyo?
+
Late March to May for blossom, October to November for clear Fuji views. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tokyo?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
