imperial palace tour & shrines
Our guide was amazing! She took us across the city to see these shrines. Taught us how to navigate subway systems and gave us recommendations on where to shop and eat. We were lucky enough that only my friend and I were her only clients for the day. So it was like a private tour. Would completely book with her again. It was a great value and she was extremely knowledgeable about the local history.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! I'm so happy I could help make your first days in Tokyo a little easier and more enjoyable. I hope you have an amazing time in Japan, and I'd love to see you again someday. Arigato! 🌸 Toko

It was a good tour.
It was one of the most memorable tours on this trip! It was also really nice that it was a tour where we could enter from 9 o'clock, allowing us to look around at a relaxed pace. It was a very special experience in itself to be able to see the Tokugawa family cemetery, which is usually difficult to enter. Above all, because the guide was a local, they explained everything in great detail and with great care, from the historical background to the meaning of each place. If I had visited alone, I would have just seen it and passed by, but seeing it while listening to the explanations made it feel completely different, and I learned so many new things. For me, as a Korean, what was most impressive was not just encountering Japanese history through books or videos, but being able to go to the actual sites where history remains and seeing it with my own eyes. I felt amazed, thinking, 'This is truly the place that appeared in history,' and it was a meaningful experience beyond simple tourism. As Korea and Japan have deep historical ties, it was even more interesting for me as a Korean to be able to see Japanese history firsthand in the field and hear explanations from a local guide. What I knew before came alive much more vividly when I encountered it at the actual location. The guide was very kind and explained things very thoroughly, so I could participate happily from beginning to end. This is a tour I highly recommend for those who want to directly experience the history and culture of a country, rather than just visiting famous tourist spots. It was also nice that we could tour the special space starting from 9 AM, and above all, I was very satisfied that I could understand Japanese history more deeply by meeting a good guide. Thank you so much for creating a precious experience that I will remember for a long time! 😊

Mayuka is best
We had such a great time with our guide, Mayuka! She was incredibly friendly and kind, and shared not only interesting history but also stories about everyday life in Japan, which made the tour feel much more personal. The evening Buddhist ceremony was truly special and definitely one of the highlights of our trip!

We Got to Join a Special Evening Buddhist Service!
Toko was such an energetic and friendly guide! This didn’t feel like an ordinary tour—it felt more like exploring Tokyo with a local friend. She shared fascinating stories about Japanese culture and everyday life, including things we never would have discovered on our own. The tour was relaxed and never rushed, so we had plenty of time to enjoy each location. The highlight was being able to join a special evening Buddhist service, which made the experience feel even more unique and memorable. Toko is also an amazing photographer! She took so many great photos of us that now we can’t decide which ones to post on Instagram! 😂 Thank you, Toko, for such a fun and special experience!

Tokyo Imperial Palace & Special-Access SHOGUN Landmarks Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tokyo.
How much does Tokyo Imperial Palace & Special-Access SHOGUN Landmarks Tour cost?
+
Prices start at ¥6,000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tokyo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

Is Tokyo Imperial Palace & Special-Access SHOGUN Landmarks Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tokyo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. What are the best things to do in Tokyo?
+
Tokyo is less a city than a stack of neighborhoods with completely different opening hours. A guided food crawl through Shinjuku's Omoide Yokocho gets you past the no-tourist curtains, while the day trips west to Hakone and Fuji need an early start to be worth the fare. Our ranking weighs guide quality heavily here, because in Tokyo the guide is the product. On Outty we rank every Tokyo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Best of Shinjuku: Izakaya Food Tour (3-4 Stops, 14+ Tastings), Matcha Making Class in Tokyo with Authentic Japanese Sweets Set, Tokyo: Asakusa Senso-ji Temple & Old Town Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tokyo?
+
Late March to May for blossom, October to November for clear Fuji views. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tokyo?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
