Enjoy a unique experience that's simply not possible by just watching on TV! Come face to face with Japanese culture that has been kept alive through many years, such as the presence of a referee which began in the Sengoku period (about 1467-1603), and the use of vivid 'kesho-mawashi' ceremonial aprons and the ring entering procession which have continued from the Edo period (1603-1868), on this tour guided by a National Government Licensed English Guide Interpreter knowledgeable about sumo wrestling. Watch sumo, Japan's national sport, from comfortable 2nd Floor chair seats. All tour participants will receive "The Sumo," a booklet about sumo (in English); and Banzuke-hyo, a table of rankings, as a gift! It has easy-to-understand explanations about the origins of sumo wrestling, match rules, reading the banzuke list, enjoying the ceremony, and more, so feel free to use it during the sumo viewing. Don't miss this on your trip to Japan
This was unexpectedly the highlight of our trip to Japan. We originally didn't want to go with a tour due to the extra cost, but I am SO glad we did. Our tour guide, Miki, was incredible. She was a true fan of the sport and went above and beyond by making a guide for the group explaining the matches for the day with fun descriptions of the wrestlers. We have kept the guide since returning and use it to watch matches at home now. The tour was a great mix of guidance/structure and freedom and we were able to come and go from our seats as we pleased once we arrived. We will cherish this memory-thank you, Miki!

Solid sumo experience
Great tour. The guide was really knowledgeable about the wrestlers and structure of the league. Would've liked a bit more about the winning techniques.

Highly Recommend
The fantastic reviews are real and this for sure was a highlight of our visit to Japan. And the only way to see Sumo as a foreigner, in my opinion. Our guide, Toshi, was awesome! He explained things very well ahead time, provided helpful handouts and joined us to answer many questions during the tournament. He was up late the night before preparing the days match-ups and background on each competitor. His passion for Sumo was infectious as I'm sure all the guides are (by reading the reviews). Don't hesitate to book this tour through a third party or direct with Sunrise (tickets go fast!). You won't be disappointed. In fact, you will likely become a Sumo fan as we did. Thank you Toshi and Sunrise for a very memorable experience.

Extraordinaire
Dear Sunrise Tours Team, We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the wonderful experience we had at the Sumo Tournament on May 21, 2026. A special thank you to the lady who welcomed and guided us that day. She was truly exceptional. From the very beginning, her enthusiasm, knowledge, and passion for Japanese culture and sumo made the experience unforgettable. This tournament was a very important moment for us during our trip to Japan, and thanks to her explanations and engaging presentation, we immediately felt immersed in the atmosphere and traditions of sumo. She brought everything to life with warmth, professionalism, and genuine passion. She is a remarkable ambassador for your company and for Japan. Please convey to her our heartfelt thanks and appreciation. We will always remember this special day with great pleasure. With our warmest regards, Pascal

The Best, and Most Stress-Free way to See Real Sumo Wrestling in Tokyo
This was one of our favorite experiences in Japan. We are not usually tour people, so this more experiential tour was perfect for our group. We met for a brief talk about the history and significance of Sumo in a comfortable, air-conditioned room before walking to the arena for over 3 hours of Sumo watching. Our guide, Yuki, was knowledgeable and passionate. We really felt we were able to understand and enjoy the tournament, and Yuki was there to guide us through the entire experience. It was so fun coming home and looking up the final results of the May tournament having seen all of the top competitors. I highly recommend JTB Sunrise Tours.

Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament Viewing Tour with Tickets: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tokyo.
How much does Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament Viewing Tour with Tickets cost?
+
Prices start at $138 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tokyo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament Viewing Tour with Tickets take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tokyo is not rushed.
Is Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament Viewing Tour with Tickets worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 889 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Tokyo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament Viewing Tour with Tickets?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament Viewing Tour with Tickets suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament Viewing Tour with Tickets?
+
Around 311 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tokyo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tokyo and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament Viewing Tour with Tickets start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tokyo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tokyo?
+
Tokyo is less a city than a stack of neighborhoods with completely different opening hours. A guided food crawl through Shinjuku's Omoide Yokocho gets you past the no-tourist curtains, while the day trips west to Hakone and Fuji need an early start to be worth the fare. Our ranking weighs guide quality heavily here, because in Tokyo the guide is the product. On Outty we rank every Tokyo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Best of Shinjuku: Izakaya Food Tour (3-4 Stops, 14+ Tastings), Matcha Making Class in Tokyo with Authentic Japanese Sweets Set, Tokyo: Asakusa Senso-ji Temple & Old Town Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tokyo?
+
Late March to May for blossom, October to November for clear Fuji views. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tokyo?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
What happens to Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament Viewing Tour with Tickets if the weather is bad?
+
It generally runs rain or shine, so dress for the forecast in Tokyo. Standard cancellation terms apply.
What do travelers say about Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament Viewing Tour with Tickets?
+
Across 889 reviews averaging 4.8 out of 5, recurring themes include the guide, knowledge and storytelling. Travelers single out the guide as the reason the experience works.
