    Wonderfully done

Extremely talented artists and very unique production. We really enjoyed it! The only suggestion we have: remove the time traveler guy and make each room (which were awesome, by the way!) dedicated to a generation that walks people through a specific period of time. Otherwise, it was very cool and great experience. Definitely a lot of talent here!

Response from the operator: Dear Daniel, thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful feedback! We’re very happy you enjoyed the experience and appreciated the talent and creative work behind it. Thank you also for your suggestion about the storytelling approach, we always value constructive ideas from our visitors. 😊

    Disappointing, should have be better

You can see what they were going for, but this is not a good experience. What's especially frustrating here is that we did a similar thing in Cologne, and that was squeezed in a smaller space, with way fewer sets, and we had a blast. So, it wouldn't be hard to get to good, though. First the positives: the waiting area is neat, it's air conditioned and we we're offered tea. In the experience, there are a bunch of rooms and they're all very well done, the WW2 one with snow was excellent. The VR system was first class. The bad: the whole thing is incomprehensible. The central conceit here is that a guy has to travel through time to collect (visit? understand? not sure) family artifacts that are somehow connected to his family story and also the history of Hungary in general and Budapest in specific. You can't go in there knowing nothing and come out with even a vague understanding of what happened from early 1800s to now; me, I am somewhat familiar with the history and I couldn't follow it. It's all told in, what I imagine, the writer thought was interesting clues but is actually disconnected facts. It's like the worst exposition dump in a TV movie, but it just keeps going. Some of the facts are real and interesting (like "the soviets sent tanks to crush the rebellion") and some are fake and not at all interesting (like "the grandfather remarried two years later"). Against all writing common decency, we sometimes get both in the same sentence, and good luck to you following, "My grandfather did what? When the soviet union sent tanks, it was two years later, and he had re-married." Also, the VR section of the experience is astonishingly small. There's a bit at the beginning where it's only used to view a movie, and there's an interesting section at the end where they place you on an augmented-reality bus. Otherwise, you're just shuffling from room to room watching yet another movie as the narrator and the story jumps around with its story that is, again, incomprehensible. It would be easy to fix this, too. First, and most importantly, drop the story, drop the family. It's not interesting, nor is it engaging. Second, instead of the eight-nine rooms showing us videos, give us a magic bus driving around Budapest in the various times and have the guy narrate the history. He's got a pleasant voice and there's definitely an interesting story there, if you just cut out the family heirloom nonsense. If you have those other rooms that are already done and don't want to waste them, turn them into mini-escape rooms after the bus trip.

Response from the operator: Dear Alex, thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We’re sorry the experience did not meet your expectations and that the story was difficult to follow. Time Machine Budapest is designed as a story-driven historical journey, where the family narrative connects the different eras, and VR is only one element among sets, projections and sound design. We appreciate your kind words about the waiting area, the rooms, the WW2 scene and the VR quality, and we will take your comments into account as we continue improving the experience. :)

Time Machine Budapest Historical Exhibition Ticket: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Budapest.

How much does Time Machine Budapest Historical Exhibition Ticket cost?

    +

Prices start at $25 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Budapest usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Time Machine Budapest Historical Exhibition Ticket take?

    +

Plan for about 1.3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Budapest is not rushed.

Is Time Machine Budapest Historical Exhibition Ticket worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 172 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Budapest, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Time Machine Budapest Historical Exhibition Ticket?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Time Machine Budapest Historical Exhibition Ticket suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Time Machine Budapest Historical Exhibition Ticket?

    +

Around 60 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Budapest can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Budapest and add a light layer if any part of the 1.3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Time Machine Budapest Historical Exhibition Ticket start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Budapest within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Budapest?

    +

On Outty we rank every Budapest experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Budapest City Landmarks Walking Tour in 2 Hours, Countryside Half-day Gastro-Wine Tour from Budapest Meal & pickup, Budapest free walking tour: Parliament and Shoes Memorial. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Budapest?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Budapest?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
