An Unmissable Tour
An unmissable tour. Katarina was so enthusiastic, deeply knowledgable and kind. We really appreciated the information and stories she presented about the rich past of Crete and the Minoan Civilization. Being at Knossos really surprised me and was truly one of the most special places I've ever visited, but a great guide is essential here. Going into the second part of the tour we felt we couldn't get any better -- Ary was so knowledgable about Heraklion and it's more recent past and truly took us to some great spots all over the city. One of the best tours I've ever taken.

Wonderful time travel to the Ancient Minoan civilization
Thanks to Akrivi we had a fantastic time visiting both the Heraklion Archaeological Museum and the Knossos palace. Akrivi waved together the history and mythology, explained in detail all aspects of Minoan civilization and made us to travel back in time, to learn and appreciate the achievements of Minoans, the first Mediterranean civilization. It is totally worth to book both tours together , otherwise you will be missing the complete picture.Especially if you are a small group/family you should not miss this tour; it is not just a tour it is time travel !

Tourist attraction long on queues and short on quality
Went to visit and was pretty disappointed. Long lines, poor maintenance and a real lack of quality explanations. They like to complain about the misinterpretation of the guy who discovered it but haven't done anything to really improve it.
Response from the operator: Dear pimlicowolf Thank you for the review although you posted a review on our site concerning something that does not have to do with the services we provide, but we shall help you to maybe understand better the place you visited. Knossos is one of the monumental sites within Europe. Sample of the Earliest civilization of Europe. Like all world famous sites within Europe and Greece is within Europe, ancient sites within Europe fulfill certain standards, Knossos has a long line when one tries to enter. That is why guests book with us to avoid such long lines. Although in the Louvre one might have to stand for hours before reaching the ticket booth! As for maintenance there are regulations concerning ancient sites...one does realize that maintaining a 4000 year old site is almost impossible. That is why Greece and other countries with ancient sites are part of the program Hercules in order to save ancient sites from becoming extinct. The style of maintenance and restoration conform with the UN regulations of preservation and protocols as set in 2016. Who exactly are the they that you mention that complain? The Gentleman Sir.Arthur Evans did not discover the site but excavated the site for 30 years investing not only time but also his personal finances and helped the union of Crete from the Ottomans and union with Greece after finding the oldest throne of Europe in Knossos. Evans is part of history, the end of an Era of the Victorians and part of the evolution of the science later on known as archeology. The signs in the site of Knossos, describe clearly what one sees and within brackets what Evans at the time believed. You mention they ? They haven’t done anything? The BSA(British school of archeology of Athens) and the Greek school has a whole library for all the schools of archeology and academics, as well as there are many papers on line, or you could book directly a guide with our agency and have the opportunity to hear all the latest concerning Knossos and Minoan Crete. Excavations still are on going and there is much to learn ! Like in all ancient sites one can purchase a guide book, book a shared tour or even a private tour. Please feel free to contact us upon your return to Crete.

Historical Accuracy Appreciated
My guide (Joanna) was a breath of fresh air. From start to finish her presentation of ancient and historical information admist the backdrop of artifacts and ruins made for a truly enjoyable experience. She was easy to talk to and even though you knew you might not be as educated, she was very courteous. I imagine that it must get tiresome with repeat tours keeping the energy up but Joanna never made it seem that way. The best guide for one of my favorite sites.

Why this scores 72
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
The valley of Zeus (Olive oil, wine tasting)-Knossos palace tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Heraklion.
How much does The valley of Zeus (Olive oil, wine tasting)-Knossos palace tour cost?
+
Prices start at $35 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Heraklion usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does The valley of Zeus (Olive oil, wine tasting)-Knossos palace tour take?
+
Plan for about 4.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Heraklion is not rushed.
Is The valley of Zeus (Olive oil, wine tasting)-Knossos palace tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 72 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 27 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Heraklion, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule The valley of Zeus (Olive oil, wine tasting)-Knossos palace tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is The valley of Zeus (Olive oil, wine tasting)-Knossos palace tour suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 4.5-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book The valley of Zeus (Olive oil, wine tasting)-Knossos palace tour?
+
Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Heraklion can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Heraklion and add a light layer if any part of the 4.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does The valley of Zeus (Olive oil, wine tasting)-Knossos palace tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Heraklion within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Heraklion?
+
On Outty we rank every Heraklion experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Knossos - Zeus Cave - Old Traditional Villages-Olive Oil Factory, Knossos & Lasithi Plateau: Zeus Cave, Villages, Olive Oil Tour, 5Hour Safari Tour in Crete(Heraklion)with Quad,Jeep,Buggy & Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Heraklion?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Heraklion?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
