About this experience

This trail travels alongside Lake Dunstan on the opposite side of the lake to the road that travels between Cromwell and Clyde. The engineering involved to create this trail is stunning with 450m of clip-ons attached to the rockface in places, the Hugo Suspension Bridge plus a very good trail surface throughout the ride. The views and scenery on this ride are fantastic and you can fully understand the history of the area - from the goldrush to the building of NZ's largest dam - from the information boards along the way. The Dunstan Explorer Boat return is a brilliant way to return back up the lake and explore areas of the trail that you would not have seen from your bike. Our company actively works with the Dunstan Explorer to deliver outstanding experiences for our guests.

Perfect day on the Dunstan trail

We had a fantastic time on the bike tour! Our guide Ian and his wife were super helpful and friendly. Our equipment including our bikes worked well. After our bike tour we boarded a boat for a trip back to our car. The guide on the boat gave us interesting information about the area and was very friendly as well. The day was one of the highlights of our New Zealand trip.

One of the best one-day cycle trails - especially on an e-bike!

Lake Dunstan cycle trail (42m) was a wonderful day ride. The two climbs were straightforward on an e-bike! Luke from NZ bike trails provided an excellent briefing, top tips for the trail which made for a fun experience.

Must do day out!

An awesome day out. Having made an initial enquiry, Andrew the owner rang and talked through all available options and advised what he thought were the best one’s which we then proceeded to book (for 2x people in their early 50s with a moderate level of fitness) Ian picked us up exactly at the expected time and got us underway making sure we were comfortable on the bikes and knew how to use them. We found the ride (Cromwell -> Clyde) relatively easy and that was made possible by the e-bikes. The track itself was very well maintained with no loose gravel/rutting. Carrick is a must stop for morning tea and to admire the views. Float was open but we were forewarned that isn’t always the case so be prepared. Despite several stops for rests/photos we arrived in Clyde an hour early where Ian was waiting for us so went and had a leisurely lunch. We still had plenty of power left in the bikes so don’t be afraid to use it. Ian then dropped us at the rendezvous point to get the boat back. The boat trip was very smooth, we got a great history lesson and the chance to see the same sights from a new angle. Couldn’t rate the trip/company high enough.

Fantastic

It was a fantastic ride between the mountains. With a great view on the lake. The path is good, sometimes small, with two climbs in it. After biking back wih the boat is also great.

Awesome

Such a fantastic day. The bikes were set up, the tour operator takes time to set you up and give instructions on best places to stop along the route. Definitely choose e-bikes for everyone it equalizes, slower riders can boost a bit more and keep up and manage some curly switch backs on the trail - no need to get off and push. The scenery is fabulous of course. The boat trip back also fab the driver telling you such interesting information about the area. Honestly one of the best things I've ever done

The Ultimate Lake Dunstan Bike Hire And Boat Experience: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Queenstown.

How much does The Ultimate Lake Dunstan Bike Hire And Boat Experience cost?

+

Prices start at $299 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Queenstown usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does The Ultimate Lake Dunstan Bike Hire And Boat Experience take?

+

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Queenstown is not rushed.

Is The Ultimate Lake Dunstan Bike Hire And Boat Experience worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 79 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 103 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Queenstown, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule The Ultimate Lake Dunstan Bike Hire And Boat Experience?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is The Ultimate Lake Dunstan Bike Hire And Boat Experience suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 12. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 6-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book The Ultimate Lake Dunstan Bike Hire And Boat Experience?

+

Around 36 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Queenstown can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Queenstown and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does The Ultimate Lake Dunstan Bike Hire And Boat Experience start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Queenstown within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Queenstown?

+

On Outty we rank every Queenstown experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Premium Milford Sound Small Group Tour & Cruise from Queenstown, Milford Sound Premium Small Group Tour & Cruise from Queenstown, Award Winning Premium Wine Tour Queenstown Tasting at 4 Wineries. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Queenstown?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Queenstown?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
