    A tour to remember

We had already done a food tour in Kolkata and thought it was so good we wanted to try another one. And this one was just as memorable - Muzaffar showed us to interesting, bustling parts of his city, feeding us along the way as well as giving us history lessons. A great way to spend three hours.

Response from the operator: Dear Mr. Mikael, Thank you so much for your appreciation and valuable feedback. We are delighted that you were happy and enjoyed our Kolkata food walk tour. It was an absolute pleasure & privilege meeting you and Mr. Martin. I had a great time guiding you in Kolkata. Looking forward to welcoming you again soon. Stay blessed and take care! Thanks & regards, Muzaffar Khan

A truly tasty night and a great intro to Kolkata!

Our guide, Muzaffar Khan, was knowledgable, professional, and fun! In 4 hours we had no less than 10 unique and exciting tastings/experiences. We were met in our hotel lobby on time and escorted into an a/c’d taxi for a ride to the Indian Coffee House which also offered a chance to see the College Street book market! At the coffee house we had fish sticks and egg battered fried mutton with a delicious curried ketchup sauce. True Bengali comfort food! We also enjoyed a “special coffee” the was rich, thick, creamy, and sweet. Special indeed! We then walked to Putiram Sweet Shop, a traditional spot for Bengali sweets for over 150 years, for a sample tray of desserts, all of which were delicious, but not to be missed is the pista barfi! A pistachio flavored milk based dessert that reminds of cheesecake. 😋 We then walked to several more spots including a restaurant serving Kathi rolls (brilliant burrito-like wraps with tandoori chicken inside), a street vendor serving fresh pressed fruit juices, a stop to sit and share masala chai with colleagues of Muzaffar’s, a stop at a saree shop in New Market (a special treat when I shared that I was interested in sarees), then a visit to a food festival (part of the celebration in preparation for Durga Puja), where we had panipuri, chicken kabobs, misti doi (a tangy, yogurt-like milk pudding), and finally a tasty little finger sized treat wrapped in beetle leaves! A truly tasty night to remember and a great intro to Kolkata!

The Taste of Kolkata: Food Walk Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kolkata.

How much does The Taste of Kolkata: Food Walk Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $35 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kolkata usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does The Taste of Kolkata: Food Walk Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kolkata is not rushed.

Is The Taste of Kolkata: Food Walk Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 75 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 23 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kolkata, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule The Taste of Kolkata: Food Walk Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is The Taste of Kolkata: Food Walk Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book The Taste of Kolkata: Food Walk Tour?

    +

Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kolkata can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kolkata and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does The Taste of Kolkata: Food Walk Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kolkata within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kolkata?

    +

On Outty we rank every Kolkata experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Bengali Nights Kolkata Food Tour with 13+ Tastings, Cultural Confluence of Kolkata - Culture Kaleidoscope Tour, Magic Hour Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kolkata?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kolkata?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
