What you get

    About this experience

In 1713, the plague returned to Prague. Most doctors suddenly remembered urgent business elsewhere. Alexandr Schamsky, 28 and apparently missing that survival instinct, stayed — treated patients, documented the chaos, somehow lived to tell the tale. Three centuries later, follow his exact footsteps with a guide in full plague doctor costume: beaked mask, hooded cloak, leather bag and all. In 90 minutes you'll hear five competing theories on what caused the plague, taste a (modern, harmless) anti-plague pill, smell historic lavender oil and pass one of Europe's oldest hospitals - emerging with nothing worse than a newfound suspicion of avocados. Real history. Real character. Zero actual plague. Featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Vogue and Forbes. Suitable for all ages.

    We did the tour with...

We did the tour with Thomas and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Thomas was personable, funny and full of knowledge about the plague and Prague history in general. We were looking for a short walking tour to help us recover from jet lag and this was perfect!

Response from the operator: Hi Susan, Thanks for your awesome review of our tour and for Thomas. We wish you all the best from Prague, Your plague doctors and nightwatchmen of Prague

    Highly recommend

What an amazing tour! Our guide David was a really fun storyteller and managed to keep us all invested during the entire tour - including the kids. You can really tell so much passion and work was put into this project. What the team does by bringing these forgotten or less known stories to the general public isn't just extremely interesting, it's also so so important for history preservation! If you have the chance and find the topic even slightly interesting, definitely book it, I can't recommend it enough! One of my favorite memories from my Prague trip for sure

Response from the operator: Hello 231anyaa, Thanks so much for such a detailed review. Very pleased to read your feedback. We hope to see you in our tour or maybe in our storytelling training, David & Your plague doctors and nightwatchmen of Prague

Fascinating historical tour with engaging and quick-witted guide

This tour was absolutely amazing!! Aside from learning more about this interesting topic, we were able to pass by a lot of notable Prague landmarks right at sunset. It was such a beautiful evening stroll packed full of riveting trivia. Maria was super personable, engaging, and knowledgeable about the topic. She had a great sense of humor! We had a few kids on our tour, and she went out of her way to make them feel included, which I thought was so sweet. Maria is definitely one of the best tour guides I've ever had! She even let us take photos with her in her plague doctor costume at the end. I highly recommend booking this tour during your stay in Prague.

Response from the operator: Hello Rachel, thank you for your kind review! We are so pleased Maria made your Plague Doctor tour in Prague such a personal and engaging experience. We hope to welcome you back for our Nightwatchman tour as well. Warm regards from Prague, The Nightwatchmen & Plague Doctors of Prague

The Plague Doctor of Prague: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Prague.

How much does The Plague Doctor of Prague cost?

    +

Prices start at $20 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Prague usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does The Plague Doctor of Prague take?

    +

Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Prague is not rushed.

Is The Plague Doctor of Prague worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 81 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 144 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Prague, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule The Plague Doctor of Prague?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is The Plague Doctor of Prague suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book The Plague Doctor of Prague?

    +

Around 50 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Prague can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Prague and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does The Plague Doctor of Prague start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Prague within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Prague?

    +

On Outty we rank every Prague experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Best Reviews: Bohemian & Saxon Switzerland Day Trip From Prague, Bohemian & Saxon Switzerland From Prague-Travelers' Choice 2026, Prague Essential Tour Old Town and Jewish Quarter. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Prague?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Prague?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
