    Thor the God of travel

Thor was the best tour guide I have ever had Very fun to be with He showed us everything even added stuff like puffin birds nesting grounds on the coast that you could almost touch because we were so close He drove us on the beach We will request Thor anytime we are in Iceland Thor made our last day in Iceland magical

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the wonderful review! I had an absolute blast driving you guys down the beach and getting you up close to the puffins. Making your last day in Iceland magical was the perfect way to wrap things up. Let me know whenever you're back in the country—I’d love to show you around again!

Fun and spectacular tour with Thor - great for families!

My family and I took a four-day tour through southern Iceland with Thor in June 2025 and had the absolute best time. He came highly recommended to us by friends he took to see the Northern Lights. Touring with Thor allowed us to make the most of our time in Iceland and to have fun! Thor knew of less-traveled, "hidden" sites that many tourists miss but are completely spectacular. He also knew the least busy times to see the more popular sites. The quiet and relative solitude really added to the experience. He also suggested impromptu stops to see horses or wildlife, lava formations, and other places we would have otherwise missed if on our own or in a larger tour group. Being in Thor's SUV meant we could travel faster and go off-roading which was a huge highlight, especially driving on a glacier on the way to see an ice tunnel. At several places, he dropped us off at the main site and picked us up further down the trail so we wouldn't have to loop back - saving time and energy. Thor was extremely friendly, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable. We immediately felt comfortable and at home touring with him. His motto is "there is no stress in Iceland!" We hadn't considered the importance of touring with someone who is flexible and relaxed, but it is so important given how much time you spend together. Thor is a third generation Icelander and it was nice learning about his family and life growing up there - things you can't learn from tour books. We enjoyed hearing Thor's stories about the country's history, politics, culture, geology, folklore, photography, fun local stories, etc.., as we drove through the country. We are so thankful we were able to tour with Thor and hope to do so again in the future!

Response from the operator: Takk fyrir (Thank you) for this wonderful review! I was delighted to hear that you and your family enjoyed our four-day trip through southern Iceland back in June. It was truly a pleasure driving you around and sharing the less-traveled spots and, of course, taking the SUV off-road to that ice tunnel and glacier—those drives are always a highlight! My goal is always to provide a relaxed, stress-free adventure (as you mentioned, "no stress in Iceland!") that feels more like touring with a friend than a guide. I loved sharing stories about my home country, from the geology to the folklore, and hearing that you appreciated the flexibility and comfort means the world to me. Thank you again for choosing me for your trip to Iceland. I genuinely hope to see you all again! Best regards, Thor

Waterfalls, Beaches and Puffins, Oh My!

What an exceptional day! Our guide, native Icelander Thor, was professional, courteous and knowledgeable. He, like most Icelanders, spoke excellent English. He picked us (family of 6) up from our hotel in downtown Reykjavik and returned us to the same spot at day’s end. This was an all-day tour of rural areas, so we packed our own snacks and drinks (purchased the day before because of the tour’s early start). We stopped at several stunning waterfalls and an incredible black sand beach with basalt pillars. We also visited an old lighthouse perched upon a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The cliff was home to hundreds -if not thousands- of puffins. We were feet away from these quirky, colorful little birds. Watching them take flight and feed their young were highlights of our tour. We opted to walk behind and into the mist of the first waterfall. This experience was exhilarating, but we did get a bit wet and parts of the short path required us to climb down rocks. Thor shared one of his favorite lunch spots with us (warm soup and bread at our cost), and pointed out numerous locations of interest as well as facts and information about the country and culture of Iceland throughout the day. One member of our group required a wheelchair and Thor easily accommodated this need. I highly recommend this tour and tour guide.

Response from the operator: Thank you for an excellent review. It was a pleasure to tour the South Coast with you and the family. Best Thor

The Mysterious South Coast Private Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Reykjavik.

How much does The Mysterious South Coast Private Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $1450 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Reykjavik usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does The Mysterious South Coast Private Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Reykjavik is not rushed.

Is The Mysterious South Coast Private Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 17 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Reykjavik, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule The Mysterious South Coast Private Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is The Mysterious South Coast Private Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book The Mysterious South Coast Private Tour?

    +

Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Reykjavik can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Reykjavik and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does The Mysterious South Coast Private Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Reykjavik within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Reykjavik?

    +

On Outty we rank every Reykjavik experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Reykjavik Food Walk - Local Foodie Adventure in Iceland, Small-Group Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon with Ticket & Kerid Crater, Reykjavík Small group Walking Tour - by CityWalk. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Reykjavik?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Reykjavik?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
