Excellent jungle experience and wildlife spotting in the Reserva Nacional Pacaya-Samiria
We found the agency on the internet and booked the trip directly without any issues. No advance payment was required. Ruth sent lots of instruction beforehand and has always been very responsive and helpful. This 5-day Amazon tour delivered a really high-value rainforest experience for us as a family of five (4 adults and a 12-year old child). Supported by our great two-man crew, led by Alex as our tour guide and cook, we immersed ourselves every day deeper into the jungle. They also put up and dismantled the tents and canvas cover every day. The noise in the jungle from sunset to dawn was breathtaking. We left the camp for early morning, day and night walks as well as boat excursions, enjoyed an educational tour on medicinal plants and the symbiosis between plants and ants, and swam in the Pucate river. We saw lots of pink and grey dolphins, young caimans, various monkey species, a sloth, plenty of macaws and other birds, turtles and turtles' nests, huge tarantulas, and frogs. It was incredible how Alex was able to spot so many animals, most of them we would have never detected on our own. On two of the days we went out on our jolly canoe to fish piranhas and other species, which we fried and ate in the same evening, a unique experience in particular for our youngest. Generally, we were surprised about the quality of the cuisine despite the limitations. One exception was perhaps the last dinner, when we became suspicious of the meat's smell and left it out. Alex prepared all meals on the boat. In summary, it was a really amazing, unforgettable tour for us.
Response from the operator: Dear family, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for such a beautiful and detailed review! 🙏🌴 We are so happy to hear that your 5-day expedition deep into the Amazon was an unforgettable experience for all of you, especially for your youngest explorer! It is wonderful that you enjoyed every part: the camping, the early morning walks, the Pucate River, the pink dolphins, monkeys, sloth, macaws and of course piranha fishing! I will share your kind words with Alex, he is an amazing guide and will be so happy to know you appreciated his hard work in finding animals and his cooking. Thank you for trusting Ruth Amazon Expeditions, for booking directly with us and for mentioning that we are responsive and helpful. We work hard to give clear instructions and make everything easy before the trip. And thank you for your honest feedback about the last dinner, we take it very seriously and we are already improving our food preservation for the deep jungle days to make sure this does not happen again. You now have a family in the Amazon. You are welcome back anytime! Warm hugs from the jungle, Ruth & The Ruth Amazon Expeditions Tea

Authentic Experience in Pacaya Samiria
I took the 5-day tour with Ruth Amazon Expeditions. Our group was small, just another couple and me, plus our lead guide and a boat captain who is also a guide himself. We first went to Nauta by car and then switched to a boat and kept travelling for some hours, until we reached the Pacaya Samiria Reserve, seeing birds and some pink and grey dolphins along the way. The first night we stayed in a small community, which was an interesting experience. We then kept navigating further into the jungle and made camp at different spots. Every day (and night) we hiked through the jungle for hours and also went on canoe expeditions, spotting new animals and plants/trees. This is the real thing, though: expect to spend days without showering, dealing with mosquitoes and humidity, walking under the rain, etc. This is exactly what I wanted, so I surpassed my expectations, but it might not be everyone's cup of tea. The guides were absolutely amazing. Eli and José are both passionate about their work, super kind, and willing to share their knowledge. We felt in really good hands, seeing the way they skillfully navigated the jungle using expert tracking techniques, respected nature and taught us about each and every species. I must say that Ruth has been super kind and helpful. She offered to pick me up and take me to the airport, keep my luggage safe during the length of the tour, and even lent me some items that I had forgotten. On the last day, an unexpected roadblock cropped up on the drive from Nauta to Iquitos, but she quickly arranged an alternative route through San Joaquin so we all arrived safely and on time. Highly recommend!!
Response from the operator: Dear Guest, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed and honest review! ❤️ We’re so happy that the 5-day tour surpassed your expectations. You described it perfectly: this is the real Amazon experience. Small group, hours of hiking and canoeing, camping in different spots, pink and grey dolphins on the way, nights in the jungle... and yes - no showers, mosquitoes, humidity and walking in the rain 😅 That’s exactly the adventure for travelers who want to truly connect with nature. Eli and José will be so happy to read your words. They are incredibly passionate, kind, and have such deep knowledge of the jungle. I’m thrilled you felt in really good hands with their tracking skills and the way they respect nature and teach about every species. Thank you also for your kind words about me. It’s my pleasure to help with airport pickup, luggage, and lending forgotten items. And I’m glad we could solve the roadblock on the last day and get everyone to Iquitos safely through San Joaquin. Your review helps future travelers know exactly what to expect. Thank you for recommending us so highly! The jungle will always be here for your next adventure. Great experience
We just finished a 4 night, 5 day tour with Ruth, and all I can say is: wow. It was definitely a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget. Going into this, I have to admit I was a little afraid. I knew that I loved nature and the outdoors, but I didn't know how I would cope with the heat, humidity, and all the mosquitoes. On top of that, there were also some logistical concerns, as I wasn't sure exactly what I would need in this kind of environment. Ruth helped me with both. She reassured me and provided all the information about what to bring and what would be supplied during the tour. The two guys we had with us, Eli (who did most of the guiding) and Jose (our boat captain and cook), were the best. I honestly can't imagine having spent these days with anyone else. A few things I particularly want to mention: 1. The pace of the tour. They set what, in my opinion, was a really good pace. It never felt packed or rushed. We had time to enjoy nature and rest between activities, while also exploring the area by boat and on foot. 2. Eli was a great guide. He is knowledgeable, patient, and very respectful. It was a pleasure learning about the Amazon from him. 3. The food surpassed my expectations. I had imagined we'd mostly be eating dried meat or fruit rather than proper cooked meals, so I was pleasantly surprised. Jose really knows his stuff and is a great cook. He is also very knowledgeable about plants and can tell you lots of interesting local stories. 4. The hardest part for me was the lack of opportunities to wash, combined with the hot and humid environment. But it's definitely doable. If I were to do it again, I might choose to stay at a lodge for easier access to showers. On the other hand, waking up in the jungle is absolutely beautiful. You get to hear all the birds and animals, and for a short while, the temperature is just right and there are no bugs biting you. Perfection. 5. Ruth was a great help throughout the whole experience. She provided us with all the details we needed and even helped us get back to Iquitos during street protests and roadblocks. She really takes good care of her tourists. And she loves cats! I would definitely recommend this tour. We always felt safe and had a lot of fun. If we ever do it again, we'll definitely call on Ruth!
Response from the operator: Wow... thank you so much for this heartfelt review! ❤️ We’re so happy that despite the heat, humidity and mosquitoes, you had a once in a lifetime experience. Eli and Jose will be so touched by your words. They truly are the best and love making sure the pace is right and everyone feels safe and cared for. I’m glad we could help you with all the details and get you back safely during the roadblocks. And yes... I do love cats! 😊 Thank you for trusting us and for recommending us. The jungle and our team will be waiting to welcome you back! With so much gratitude, Ruth & The Ruth Amazon Expeditions Team

Great experience of the Amazon
The 5-day tour was an unforgettable experience. Until we arrived in Iquitos, we were worried that it might be too much, too difficult, and too far outside our comfort zone. Ruth gave us all the information we needed to know what to bring with us and roughly what to expect. In the end, although camping in the jungle can hardly be very comfortable, our guide, Eli, was very attentive to our needs, and José, our boat driver and cook, spoiled us with excellent food. Everything was punctual and professional, yet warm and friendly. I won’t describe all the animals and plants we saw or all the activities we did (they were as listed in the itinerary), but I can definitely say that the tour was well worth it!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! ❤️ I completely understand those worries before arriving in Iquitos. I'm so glad we could give you all the info you needed and that in the end it was worth it. Eli and Jose will be over the moon to read this. They put so much heart into making sure everyone feels comfortable, well-fed, and cared for in the jungle. Thank you for trusting us with this unforgettable experience. We’d love to welcome you back anytime! Warmly, Ruth & The Ruth Amazon Expeditions Te

Top 5-Day Jungle Adventure with Ruth Expeditions
I did the 5-day Pacaya Samiria tour, and I really loved it. You get to camp and stay deep inside the reserve and experience the nature and landscape firsthand. We went on jungle hikes every day, went along the river by canoe, and searched for different animals like caimans, monkeys, tarantulas, birds, and snakes. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the jungle and the animals and told us a lot about them. (He also spoke English, so if you don't speak Spanish, they've got you covered.) They also cooked us delicious, warm food every day. Especially as a vegetarian, I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. And Ruth is an incredibly warm-hearted person who made me feel welcome immediately. I spent a long time deciding which expedition company I should pick for my trip to Pacaya Samiria because, as a solo female traveler, I tend to be more careful. But I feel that with Ruth's Expedition, I made the best choice and am very happy I chose them. 10/10 recommend!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this beautiful 10/10 review! ❤️ We’re so happy you loved camping deep inside Pacaya Samiria and experiencing the jungle firsthand - caimans, monkeys, birds, and all! 🐒 I’m thrilled our guide could share so much knowledge in English, and that Jose cooked such good food for you. As a vegetarian, we always make sure you eat delicious, warm meals. As a solo female traveler, thank you for trusting us. Your safety and comfort mean everything to me. I’m so glad you felt welcome and that you chose Ruth’s Expeditions. Hope to see you again in the Amazon someday! With gratitude, Ruth & The Ruth Amazon Expeditions Tea

How much does The Jungle of Mirrors 5 Days cost?

Prices start at $720 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Iquitos usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does The Jungle of Mirrors 5 Days take?

Plan for about 120 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Iquitos is not rushed.
Is The Jungle of Mirrors 5 Days worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 21 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Iquitos, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Iquitos?
