Fun and well thought out experience into the Colomian countryside

Olinto provided a unique experience and nice contrast to other days of tourist activities in Cartgena old city. He drove us 2 hours there and back, and the drive is scenic. Breakfast and late lunch were provided featuring tasty traditional fare. A local accompanied us on the hike, which most of it was easy with the provided wellies. There was a short section that was more tricky to navigate towards the end of the path but was glad for the challenge. We passed through a few farms with cattle and chickens. Olinto provided information on the region, history, native plants and animals, all in English. After the hike, we listened to skilled local musicians playing traditional music - it was very fun and unforgettable! Recommend to all Cartagena tourists to get outside of the city with this tour. I would be interested to go on Olinto's other tours next time I come to Cartagena.

    Colombian Joy!

Our day with Oli on the Jaguar’s Footprint tour was the best part of our trip to Cartagena! His knowledge of and enthusiasm for Colombia’s environment and culture resulted in a rich and truly memorable excursion. Through him, our farmer-guide, musicians and lunch hosts, we experienced a bit of the joy of the Colombian people. The trip was also well planned and orchestrated.

    Terrific trip

This was a terrific trip and well worth the cost. Oli is knowledgeable and has a passion not only for Colombia’s natural treasures but also traditional Colombian culture and how the two intersect. He was easy to communicate with prior to the trip, accommodating my special request for a vegetarian meal, and clear about what the trip would entail and how to prepare. The drive to the hike was spectacular, the hike fun with very cool (“Chevere”) petroglyphs. I had expected the post hike music part to be touristy but instead we spent a fun afternoon with a wonderful group of young musicians and enjoyed a delicious meal. By far our best Cartagena experience so far

    INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE - HIGHLY RECOMMEND

What an incredible experience! If you love hiking, nature, animals, plant life - this is for you! Olinto our guide is so knowledgeable and passionate and we learned so much about not only the plant and animal life, but about Colombia in general and their culture, food, music, etc. He was very punctual, professional, and fun! We were able to see many different types of birds and also monkeys! The views were INCREDIBLE and seeing the petroglyphs was a once in a lifetime experience! Getting to have lunch at a local hotel and have the local music played for us was so special and cool. We cannot recommend Olinto and TaroAdventures enough! This is a must do in Cartagena!

Wonderful excursion demonstrating the beautiful cultural and natural heritage of Montes de Maria

We had an amazing tour with Olinto visiting Montes de Maria on The Jaguar's Footprint tour! It was definitely one of the best days we had during our wonderful two and a half weeks in Colombia. Olinto arrived right on time to pick us up from our hotel and we were shortly on the road to the San Jacinto. Olinto is a very knowledgeable, passionate and easy-going guide and we had many interesting conversations on the road. Before arriving at the hiking trail to the petroglyphs we stopped for a lovely breakfast at a roadside cafe. When we arrived at the trail a local guide was there to join us. Olinto had also made sure to bring correct-sized wellies for us as it had rained the day before. Both Olinto and the local guide were very attentive to our surroundings, identifying a range of plant species and wildlife. Within a couple of hundred metres we were lucky enough to see a variety of bird species, including toucans and macaws (we would not have spotted them without their help). The trail itself was low difficulty. After criss-crossing some farms, meeting a few farmers and seeing some incredible palm trees, we proceeded on to a dry(ish) river bed to the petroglyphs. There are two sets, one at the entrance, and another a bit further along. The setting was beautiful and the carvings really special. On the return to the car we encountered some howler monkeys clambering around the canopy of the trees overhead. After the hike of approximately 3 hours we then headed to San Jacinto for lunch and a music workshop with Gaita musicians who treated us to a brilliant performance and taught us the basics of how to play their instruments - we did our best. Olinto also gave us a insightful overview of the materials they were made from, their musical purpose and their cultural origins. The lunch provided was also very tasty and everyone involved in the tour was incredibly friendly and hospitable. Overall, this tour and Taroa Adventures are highly recommended. It made for a fascinating day-out from Cartagena. If you have time, visit the Cartagena gold museum beforehand as it gives an interesting background to the region you visit. Thank you Olinto (and please extend our thanks to everyone else on the tour) for a truly memorable day we won't forget!

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cartagena.

How much does The Jaguar´s Footprint: Hike and Music Day Trip from Cartagena cost?

    +

Prices start at $189 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cartagena usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does The Jaguar´s Footprint: Hike and Music Day Trip from Cartagena take?

    +

Plan for about 11 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cartagena is not rushed.

Is The Jaguar´s Footprint: Hike and Music Day Trip from Cartagena worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 113 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cartagena, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule The Jaguar´s Footprint: Hike and Music Day Trip from Cartagena?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is The Jaguar´s Footprint: Hike and Music Day Trip from Cartagena suitable for kids and families?

How far in advance should I book The Jaguar´s Footprint: Hike and Music Day Trip from Cartagena?

    +

Around 40 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cartagena can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cartagena and add a light layer if any part of the 11-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Cartagena?

    +

On Outty we rank every Cartagena experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Historic Center & Getsemaní Shared Tour in Cartagena, Cartagena Antigua & Barrio Getsemani group with audio system, Cartagena VIP Boat Tour: Rosario Islands & Snorkel. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cartagena?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cartagena?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
