What you'll see and do
Fram Museum
The main exhibition in the Fram building has explanatory texts in ten languages and describes the three great Fram expeditions. In June 2013 we inaugurated our new Gjøa building, which is connected to the Fram with an underground tunnel. The centerpiece here is Gjøa, the first ship to navigate the whole of the Northwest Passage. There are brand new historical exhibitions on the expeditions of Gjøa and Maud, of the airplanes N24 and N25 as well as of the airship Norge, John Franklin's legendary expedition and those of Henry Larsen and Eivind Astrup. We also present current issues facing the High North such as polar bears, ice melting, gas and oil etc. There is a 116 seats cinema showing a polar introduction movie every fifteen minutes.

Great museum
Interesting museum which houses the Fram explorer boat - lots of history about voyages and information. Seafront location in lovely grounds. There are other museums on the same site which unfortunately we had no time to visit.

For the explorer-curious, these museums make a great day in Oslo.
If you've ever wondered what it took to explore the far reaches of the world (North Pole, South Pole, Northwest Passage), spend a few hours at the Fram Museum. Combined with the adjacent Kon Tiki and Norwegian Maritime Museum, this is worth at least two hours of your time or more. Did you know that explorers were using airships to try to get to the North Pole in the very early 20th century? Did you know that Thor Hyerdahl's first papyrus raft broke up after only a few weeks at sea? Did you know that various explorers left their ships and continued on for weeks at a time to reach their destinations, then made it back alive? It's incredible, stirring, and very educational. We took the #30 bus from the waterfront, and used our Oslo Pass for the bus and the three museums. If you get a two-day pass, and you're seniors (67+), it's pretty reasonable if you want to see a lot of museums. Nearly as amazing as the voyages and voyagers is the fact that the original ships (or rafts) are housed inside the museums. Really big ships that you can wander through. Man, those guys were tough. You'll want to wave a Norwegian flag when you complete your tour.

Very nice museum. Tons of information and exhibits. It’s cool to walk inside the ships. Gift store was really reasonably priced. There are actually 2 building so don’t miss the second one.
