  5. Place du Grand 9 Avril 1947

During your walking tour of the Medina, you will stop at the Grand Socco, the historic square separating the old Medina from Tangier's Ville Nouvelle. This important landmark has witnessed some remarkable moments in the city's international history. Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany visited Tangier on March 3, 1905, an event that increased tensions between Germany and France and contributed to the chain of events leading to World War I. The Grand Socco is also associated with King Mohammed V's famous speech on April 9, 1947, marking his arrival in Tangier during the period of international administration. It is an interesting historical stop on any Tangier sightseeing tour.

  7. Great Mosque of Tangier

The Great Mosque of Tangier, a nineteenth-century landmark, stands in the historic heart of the Medina. The site has a fascinating religious history dating back to a fifth-century Roman church. Following the Muslim conquest of Tangier, the Marinid Dynasty transformed the church into a mosque. During the Portuguese and English periods, it was once again converted into a church. After Sultan Moulay Ismail recaptured Tangier in 1684, the building returned to its role as a mosque. Sultan Sulayman completely rebuilt it in 1815, creating the historic structure seen today. Discovering the Great Mosque with your private guide adds fascinating historical context to your Tangier Morocco tour.

The palace occupies the eastern part of the Kasbah and reflects the many civilizations that shaped Tangier. Before becoming a museum, the site was used by Portuguese governors between 1471 and 1661 and later became the residence of English governors from 1662 to 1684. Today, the museum is one of Tangier's important cultural attractions and an interesting addition to a Tangier private guided tour for visitors wishing to understand the city's rich Mediterranean history.

Top notch tour company!

Our experience was incredible. We booked at the last minute, and all communication was top notch and professional. From the time we were met at the Tanger train station, we were treated well. We had a tour of Tangier that lasted well over the half day. Every site we visited was filled with commentary and the opportunity to take photos. The guides used were knowledgeable and personable. Abdul made sure we saw everything we wanted and catered to our own needs during the tour. Definitely recommend Latif Tours when in Tangier!

Very cool, if not misadventure to the Tangiers Casbah!

Our private 4-hour tour of Tangier was a fantastic experience, though we recommend allowing plenty of time for the ferry from Tarifa. Due to traffic from the Cadiz port, we were five minutes late, which unfortunately led to a two-hour delay—something to keep in mind when planning. With only two hours (our fault), we had to skip the camel ride and the corniche drive, but the time we did have was filled with unforgettable sights, sounds, and fragrances as we wandered through the Casbah and Medina. Our guide, Majid, was wonderful—super kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating. A word of caution: when they take you to the rug seller, be prepared for a high-pressure sales pitch—it’s clearly a kickback arrangement. Still, the overall experience of exploring Tangier’s vibrant streets, rich history, and lively atmosphere made it well worth the visit.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your private Tangier tour and that Majid made your experience memorable—he’ll be happy to hear your kind words. We appreciate your note about ferry timing and the rug shop visit—these are helpful tips for future travelers. We hope next time you can stay a bit longer to enjoy the camel ride and corniche drive as well! It was a pleasure having you with us, and we’d love to welcome you back to explore more of Tangier soon.

The Best of Tangier: Luxury 4-Hour Private Experience: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tangier.

How much does The Best of Tangier: Luxury 4-Hour Private Experience cost?

+

Prices start at $40 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tangier usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does The Best of Tangier: Luxury 4-Hour Private Experience take?

+

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tangier is not rushed.

Is The Best of Tangier: Luxury 4-Hour Private Experience worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 75 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 57 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tangier, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule The Best of Tangier: Luxury 4-Hour Private Experience?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is The Best of Tangier: Luxury 4-Hour Private Experience suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book The Best of Tangier: Luxury 4-Hour Private Experience?

+

Around 20 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tangier can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tangier and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does The Best of Tangier: Luxury 4-Hour Private Experience start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tangier within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Tangier?

+

On Outty we rank every Tangier experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include From Tangier: Chefchaouen Day Trip with Local Guide, luxury 4 Hour Private Tour of Tangier, Authentic Full Day Private Tour of Tangier. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Tangier?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Tangier?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
