Once we get into the Oltrarno, other side of the river, we will visit Pitti Palace, it's a vast, mainly Renaissance, palace in Florence. The core of the present palazzo dates from 1458 and was originally the town residence of Luca Pitti, an ambitious Florentine banker, but it was bought by the Medici family in 1549 and became the chef residence of the ruling families of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. It grew as a great treasure house as later generations amassed paintings, plates, jewelry and luxurious possessions.

Demetra is a fantastic guide. We did a six hour walking tour of Florence and enjoyed it very much. It was a customized tour for our family. She is very knowledgeable and helped us understand many aspects of Florence. We visited Galileo museum. She gave us great recommendations for us to enjoy gelato and lunch in Florence. She was very easy to communicate with. We highly recommend her as a tour guide!!

<p>The tour takes you into the duomo and cutting the line there is definitely desirable. Otherwise you get a reasonably good idea of where the major sites are to come back later and visit in more detail. Our guide was quite knowledgeable about the history of Florence.</p>
