What you'll see and do

  1. Luang Prabang

Your driver will be ready to bring you from your hotel in Luang Prabang to the Bamboo Experience, an interactive place where everything revolves around the use of bamboo. As this is a joint experience, you may see more bamboo aficionados partaking on this encounter with this versatile material. You are welcomed by the local team who will be guiding you through all stages and usage of bamboo in a rural, Laotian lifestyle. Your guide will show you the technique and/or the usage of each product as such fishing tools, music instruments etc. Start your simple bamboo weaving class with an expert – it may be challenging in the beginning but as always, patience is a virtue. The team behind the Bamboo Experience show you the best and safest way to cut the bamboo in workable sheet before moving into the weaving and fabrication stage.

    120 minutes here

  2. Proceed to the bamboo cooking demonstration (you are free to assist) as such bamboo shoot soup, bamboo shoot steamed in banana leaf, fermented bamboo shoot dipping and sticky rice and more. The fun really starts once your local bamboo professionals show you the rules of local games with bamboo; the competitive edge will bring out the best of everyone! Savour your creations at the end of the session in a traditional Lao house (Pavilion style) overlooking the pristine scenery and rice fields. The emphasis is to have fun and learn a little about bamboo work and bamboo dishes. We end the morning with a delectable lunch, made of (what else) mainly bamboo! Many experiences in one!

You think you're still in town, then suddenly you're at their house in the countryside! They fit in so much and even customised it for us. We did banboo weaving, cooking class, stilts, musical performance, special ceremony, and a bamboo game. I got bitten a bit at sunset so maybe take some repellent. But it's great.

Response from the operator: Hello! Thank you for this great feedback! That transition from town to countryside is always surprising! What a wonderful program they put together for you. Thanks for the mosquito repellent tip at sunset, that's helpful! Glad you enjoyed the experience. Thanks for choosing Asian Trails!

For amateurs, you can do anything with Bamboo.

Simply everything was perfect! The visit, demonstrations, culinary classes, music and dance. The explanations are very good but only in English. The welcome is warm. Definitely worth the visit.

+

How many days do you need in Luang Prabang?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
