Amazing 5 day adventure in Cao Bang and Ba Be National Park.

We had an amazing 4night, 5 day bespoke tour led by the wonderful guide, Mr Long. The trip included jungle hiking and walking through many villages where we met the locals and learnt all about their farming and the traditional crafts each village specialised in. We made paper using traditional techniques and were invited to drink tea and “happy water” with the locals. We saw how incense was made, baskets woven, ceramic pots were made, and knives forged. All using traditional methods. The home stay was fantastic and we were made to feel very welcome and treated to delicious fresh local cuisine. We then drove to BaBe National Park, visiting the spectacular Ban Gioc Waterfall and Nguom Ngao Cave on the way. We spent two wonderful nights at the beautiful Ba Be Jungle House situated on the BaBe Lake. Mr Long made sure every day was exciting for us, while at the same time kept us safe. The day trip into Tham Phay Cave was incredible. The hike into the cave was picturesque and the cave itself was a unique and exciting experience. We were the only ones in there as it is privately owned and we had to wade through water for several kilometres with only headlamps to light the way. We just LOVED it!! We then had a delicious meal made by the local villagers before heading back to the Ba BeJungle House for a well deserved cocktail poolside and another amazing dinner. Our final day included kayaking, boating, visiting the huge bat cave, picking green tea with locals before arriving back in Hanoi. Our driver, also called Mr Long, was a lovely man who was an excellent and very safe driver. We already miss both Mr Longs. Especially our guide. He answered all our questions so thoughtfully, he really looked after us and had a great sense of humour. He was the perfect guide.

About Tham Phay Cave Expedition 1N2D

We had an absolutely beautiful experience at Ba Be Jungle Houses, especially during the 2D1N tham phay Cave expedition. It’s something I will never forget, such a unique and special journey that the four of us shared together. From the very beginning, everything was perfectly organized. The team was incredibly warm, kind, and attentive. We are strict vegetarians and don’t eat eggs, but they went above and beyond to accommodate us. Every meal was thoughtfully prepared, and they truly made sure we were comfortable and happy throughout. The trek itself was amazing. The cave expedition was simply unforgettable, truly one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide, hoan, was wonderful. He was not only very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the jungle, but also explained the history and formation of the cave in such an engaging way. His kindness and passion made the experience even more special. Every little detail was taken care of, and everything ran on time, which made the whole trip smooth and stress-free. Receiving a medal at the end was such a proud and memorable moment for us. The next day was more relaxed, which was perfect after all the trekking and climbing, it gave us time to really soak in the experience. We did boating, kaayaking, temple visit and free swim in the river. Overall, this was an incredible experience made even better by the amazing people at Ba Be Jungle Houses. I would highly, highly recommend it to anyone looking for something unique and unforgettable.

Tham Phay cave expedition & Jungle trekking 4 days 3 nights: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Hanoi.

How much does Tham Phay cave expedition & Jungle trekking 4 days 3 nights cost?

    +

Prices start at $599 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Hanoi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Tham Phay cave expedition & Jungle trekking 4 days 3 nights take?

    +

Plan for about 96 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Hanoi is not rushed.

Is Tham Phay cave expedition & Jungle trekking 4 days 3 nights worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 51 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable outdoors in Hanoi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Tham Phay cave expedition & Jungle trekking 4 days 3 nights?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Tham Phay cave expedition & Jungle trekking 4 days 3 nights suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 96-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Tham Phay cave expedition & Jungle trekking 4 days 3 nights?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Hanoi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Hanoi and add a light layer if any part of the 96-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Tham Phay cave expedition & Jungle trekking 4 days 3 nights start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Hanoi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Hanoi?

    +

On Outty we rank every Hanoi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Ninh Binh Day Trip from Hanoi with Tam Coc or Trang An & Mua Cave, Ha Giang Loop Tour 4 Days 3 Nights with Ha Giang Vision Tour, Halong Bay Day Tour With Titop Island, Cave, Kayak & Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Hanoi?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Hanoi?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
