Poor communication of timing
We booked with Volare because of their track record and ability to do pickups / drop-offs in CDMX. The hot air balloon experience itself was good. The weather was cloudy and grey but that's not within anyone's control. We felt safe and in professional hands from takeoff to landing. The reason it wasn't a 5-star experience was before and after the hot air balloon ride. During the morning pickups, our van waited 25 mins past a group's agreed meeting time before leaving without them. I appreciate that they were trying to be nice and it didn't actually change the time we got in the balloons. But Volare really should enforce their own timing policies more strictly as it isn't fair to everyone else who woke up on time for a 4.30-5am pickup. After the hot air balloon ride, we chose to go to Teotihuacán without a guide. Upon drop-off (a few mins walk away from the entrance, and still a long walk from the site's parking lot), our whole group was immediately "handed over" to a guide who said he had important info for us. He started by repeating the pickup time and passing around a map, and he insisted he was with Volare, so we assumed we should listen. 10 mins later, we were confusingly bundled into another van when we realised we'd been taken to where the tourist souvenir stalls / workshops are. To his credit, the driver took us back to the site entrance when we complained. But this all meant we had less time for exploring the pyramids than we'd wanted. Then, at pickup time, it seemed the strict 'please be on time as we won't wait more than 5 mins for you' was again an empty threat. We were at the restaurant for 30 mins before the vans turned up. I'd be ok with that if that expectation was clearly communicated. But instead we hurried back to be on time, and then avoided committing to lunch anywhere, because actual timing was a complete unknown. Overall, the experience was ok, but some unnecessary stress and annoyance.
