Templo Mayor was the ceremonial center of Tenochtitlan. It stayed buried under Mexico City until 1978, when electric company workers hit a carved monolith and an entire block of the historic center had to come down. First, the open-air ruins: the platforms of the twin pyramid built for Tlaloc and Huitzilopochtli. Then the museum, where your guide walks you through the main pieces and the recent finds.

Fun and Adventurous Tour
Our tour guide, Omar, was spectacular! We had our 10 and 12 year old kiddos with us and they were hooked! Omar told us all the details but with enthusiasm and story telling fashion. His English was excellent and we all had so much fun! It felt like an adventure through the temple!

Buy the Private Tour!
Our private tour with guide Daniel was excellent. He was very knowledgeable about the site, museum, and history. Our group especially appreciated his pride in his Mexica ancestry. There was a mix-up regarding meeting times that caused a two hour delay but it was not the fault of our guide, but the company itself. We would highly recommend having a private tour of the Templo Mayor due to the extra historical context provided versus trying to self tour the site. Daniel was also quite funny!
Response from the operator: Hi Wendy, I appreciate the feedback about your experience with me and Chill N'Go Tours. It is great to know that despite the logistical inconveniences, you really enjoyed your visit to the Templo Mayor and the history behind the Mexicas 😃🙏 Hope to have you back as part of another cultural adventure in México City

Very informative and entertaining. We got so much more out of this experience than if we had tried to see it alone. Really got a great grasp on the history

Amazing tour of a very special place
Leonor was a joy to tour with. I feel like I’m ready for a test on Mexican history, with a focus on pre-Hispanic times. Leonor is an expert on this time period and her wealth of knowledge was apparent and much appreciated. She shared so much information that we learned beyond what was in front of us at Templo Mayor and the cathedral. It was like exploring a new city with an old friend.
Response from the operator: Hello Priscilla, I am very happy to read about you and how you feel about our time together. You are ready for an exam on Mexican History!!! ;D Hope to see you soon guys!!

How long does Templo Mayor Tour, Mexico City: Aztec Ruins & Museum take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mexico City is not rushed.

+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 110 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Mexico City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Is Templo Mayor Tour, Mexico City: Aztec Ruins & Museum suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Templo Mayor Tour, Mexico City: Aztec Ruins & Museum?
+
Around 39 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mexico City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mexico City and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mexico City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Mexico City?

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Mexico City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Mexico City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
