However, learning about Japanese tea ceremony means much more than just learning to make matcha. Why was this a necessary practice of samurais and monks in times past? Why is the "ceremony" still carried on today? Come, step into the world of profound spirituality and set your soul free. 1. Introduction: You will learn the basic concepts and ideas of tea ceremony. You will also learn how to behave in a tea room and appreciate its decoration. 2. The Way of Tea: You will watch a demonstration of the way of tea. We think you will enjoy the quiet and serene atmosphere. 3. Hands-on: Make your own tea! We will tell you how to drink it, and also serve you a specially selected Japanese cake. *Please arrive on time. We cannot allow latecomers to join a session once it has started. *Please refrain from bringing children under the age of 6.

Relaxing, yet informative experience.
We were delighted to meet the tea masters who guided us through this experience. The ceremony is very slow and thoughtful so some guests might find it tedious, but we found it relaxing and insightful to participate in Japanese culture for an hour.

Incredibly authentic experience
We did the Tea Ceremony Experience and it was genuinely one of the highlights of our trip. The setting was beautiful and peaceful, and the whole experience felt wonderfully authentic. Our host was warm, patient and incredibly knowledgeable, explaining the meaning behind each step in a way that was easy to follow and really engaging. It was hands-on, calming and thoughtfully paced, and we left feeling both relaxed and richer for having learned something special. If you’re in Kyoto and want a cultural experience that’s memorable (not touristy), I highly recommend.

Perfect tea ceremony experience in small Kyoto teahouse
Small group experience, only 4 of us. Hostesses were lovely ladies , very welcoming and friendly. No pressure to be involved but we did, and very positive experience. Highly recommend
