Eating Our Way Through Downtown Cairo
What an unforgettable food experience in Cairo! Every stop on this tour was bursting with flavour and authenticity. The hawawishi was absolutely mouth-watering — a deep-fried golden crust with perfectly spiced, juicy fillings. My son summed it up best by calling it “Egyptian pizza” 😄. We then enjoyed foul sandwiches, with rich, slow-cooked fava beans tucked into warm, soft pita bread — simple, comforting, and incredibly satisfying. The highlight was finishing with koshari at the world-famous Abou Tarek, followed by a rice milk dessert that was the perfect way to cool down the tummy after the bold flavours of the koshari. Portion sizes were extremely generous — we were pleasantly full and still took plenty of leftovers home! A huge shout-out to Mohamed , our awesome guide. He was knowledgeable about every dish and expertly guided us through the busy, traffic-congested streets of downtown Cairo while sharing fascinating food stories along the way. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to truly taste Cairo. One small request: please bring back the pigeon tasting to the street food menu — it would be an incredible addition!
Response from the operator: Thank you for the fantastic review! We’re thrilled you enjoyed the authentic flavors, generous portions, and Mohammed’s guidance. We can’t wait to welcome you again for another Tripianto experience!

Great evening!
Mohammed was an excellent food tour guide for us. Perfect pace and we got to eat four or five different things. Everything was clean and high quality and he had mentioned that he had tried all the food before breaking us there. From local Egyptian dishes, to the local mint tea and of course ending with some dessert. Muhammad was very prompt and organized and had a plan as we arrive and explained everything to us. He listened to any feedback or any limitations we had with our diet and made the trip really great and memorable for us. Thanks Mohammed!!
Response from the operator: Thank you for the wonderful review! We’re so glad you enjoyed the food tour and the variety of dishes. Mohammed will be thrilled to hear your kind words about his guidance, organization, and attentiveness. We’re happy he made your experience memorable!

Cairo Food Tour
Interesting tour of food in Cairo. Tour guide was young and very friendly but also inexperienced. There was A LOT of walking between restaurants. The quantity of food was also a lot., however most of the food and restaurants looked nothing like the pictures in the Viator description. Overall a good experience for the price paid, but we would have preferred tasting size portions rather than meal size portions.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your feedback. We’re happy to hear you enjoyed the experience overall and that our guide made you feel welcome. About the walking, the tour includes roughly 1 km between the first stop and the area where the rest of the tastings continue. Our guide always offers breaks and can stop anywhere for guests to rest — your comfort is very important to us. Egyptian portions are naturally generous, and guests are always free to taste and leave the rest. We appreciate your comment and will work on making the experience feel more “tasting-style.” The photos on Viator show examples of the traditional dishes included, though the actual local restaurants may vary depending on what’s fresh and available. If you ever return to Egypt, we’d love to host you again and offer you an upgraded experience.

Amazing food experience
This food tour was excellent - we were taken to 5 local spaces that are the best in Cairo. We got more than we expected as my friend and I were the only two in our group. As an added bonus, our guide was late due to traffic, he sent a friend to meet us and we had two hosts for the evening. We felt like honoured guests and left the tour feeling informed, full of delicious food, and like we had a great evening with friends. I can highly recommend this tour and if Mohamed and is friend are any indication, the guides for this company are excellent!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled you enjoyed the tour, the food, and the company of Mohamed and his friend. Your kind words mean a lot to us, and we’ll be sure to share them with the guides—they’ll be delighted! We hope to welcome you back for more delicious adventures in Cairo soon. 😊

Why this scores 68
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Taste the Flavors of Egypt with Local Cairo Food Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cairo.
How much does Taste the Flavors of Egypt with Local Cairo Food Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $23 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cairo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Taste the Flavors of Egypt with Local Cairo Food Tour take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cairo is not rushed.
Is Taste the Flavors of Egypt with Local Cairo Food Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 14 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cairo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Taste the Flavors of Egypt with Local Cairo Food Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Taste the Flavors of Egypt with Local Cairo Food Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Taste the Flavors of Egypt with Local Cairo Food Tour?
+
Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cairo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cairo and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Taste the Flavors of Egypt with Local Cairo Food Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cairo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Cairo?
+
On Outty we rank every Cairo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include All-in-One Giza Tour, inside Pyramid, sphinx, Camel ride & lunch, VIP Private Giza Pyramids, Sphinx Tour –Inside the Pyramids&More, Best of Cairo Private Giza Pyramids, Sphinx and Grand Museum Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Cairo?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Cairo?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
