After the Taj Mahal, visit the magnificent fort of the Mughal dynasty built by the third Mughal emperor, Akbar. Agra Fort is the second world heritage site of the city. It is one of the oldest and largest forts in India. It was built in the 10th century by the Hindu Rajput King Badal Singh. Later this fort was rebuilt by Third Mughal King Akbar. Akbar built lots of palaces in Agra fort with red sandstone. Shahjahan also added some magnificent buildings with white marble. Jahangir Palace, Diwan-a-Khas, Diwan-a-am, and khas mahal are the beautiful palaces of Agra Fort.

Itmad-ud-Daula
2:00 PM A beautiful building built in white marble is the tomb of Mirza Gyas Beg. He was the prime minister in the court of Jahangir and died in 1621 in Agra. Later his daughter or wife Jahangir decided to build a mausoleum. This mausoleum was in white marble with beautiful inlay work.

Marble Handicrafts Agra
After the sightseeing, spend some time visiting the local handicrafts of the city developed during the Mughal rule in India. Marble Inlay is a famous handicraft of the city, and many families from the 16th century are working with marble Inlay work. The traveler can see the live demonstration of this art, and no change has come in this art from the 16th century. The other handicrafts include the making of hand-knotted carpets and jewelry. Agra is also famous for textiles and the leather industry.

Beautiful sights, so much to experience, need more time
Tour guide was very knowledgeable and shared detailed history at each stop. He and the driver were also flexible to adjust stops and accommodate shopping within the day. Unfortunately there is not enough time to visit all sites in one day so a choice between Akbar’s tomb and Baby Taj has to be made. We chose Baby Taj to fit into our schedule to get back to Delhi.

excellent tour guide.
Chitwan Ji is an excellent guide and well mannered person. Picked me up from Agra railway station along with driver around 8am and finished the tour by 6pm. His patient story telling ability takes you back in time. Would definitely recommend his service.
