    1. Robben Island Museum

Robben Island is an island in Table Bay – Cape Town. It was named by the Dutch- Robben Island and the British had called it Seal Island. It was used as an animal quarantine station, as a leper colony and for isolation of mainly political prisoners. To date, three former inmates of Robben Island have gone on to become President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, Kgalema Motlanthe and Jacob Zuma. Robben Island was declared a Unesco World Heritage site in 1999 and offers daily tours. Tour to this world Heritage site begins at the Nelson Mandela Gateway at the V&A Waterfront. After pick-up from your hotel in Cape Town, you will be driven to the V&A Waterfront where you board the Robben Island Ferry to the world-famous place of incarceration of Nelson Mandela for 18 of his 27 years. This place dubbed “South Africa Alcatraz” served as a leper colony, a place of isolation, banishment, and imprisonment. The Island is a state reminder of the harsh conditions endured as a reward for freedom from the Government of apartheid. After the historical, emotional, educative and informative tour which is conducted either by ex-prison warders or ex-prisoners of Robben Island, you board the ferry back to the Waterfront.

    An Unforgettable Tour with Remmy

My wife and I spent the third day of our visit to Cape Town with Remmy of RAW Tours. We visited both the Robben Island Prison Museum and Table Mountain. Remmy was extremely informative and compelling about the history of South Africa and specifically about Cape Town. He handled all the details our tour visits. Also, His friendly personality was reassuring to us on this our first visit to Africa. This tour experience to Robben Isand and Table Mountain would definitely not have been the same without such an excellent guide. We highly recommend RAW Tours and Remmy for an unforgettable visit to South Africa. Reggie and Beverly Bigham. USA

Response from the operator: Thank you, Reggie and Beverly, for sharing such a wonderful review. We’re thrilled to hear that your visit to Robben Island and Table Mountain was made memorable by Remmy’s knowledge, professionalism, and friendly presence. As first-time visitors to Africa, your comfort and experience are especially important to us, and it’s great to know that Remmy helped make your day both meaningful and enjoyable. We truly appreciate your recommendation and are grateful you chose RAW Tours for your Cape Town experience. We hope to welcome you back to South Africa again in the future.

    Remmy was great!

The trip to Robben Island is worth the visit. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant for us to see great views from Table Mountain and that’s just how it is. Remmy was very friendly, professional and full of knowledge. If you’re on a tight budget, I recommend doing this on your own. You’ll come out much cheaper getting your own tickets to the attractions and taking an Uber.

Response from the operator: Hello Eyejd Thank you for your review. We appreciate your feedback. Its sad to note that you could not access Table Mountain as it was closed due to annual maintenance, a situation which unfortunately was not in the Tour Operator's control. Thank you for your observation and recommendations. We hope you will consider us again for future tours. We will do our best to ensure that you have a pleasant experience as we always endavor to do. Thank you once again.

    Disappointment

We booked and paid this tour for a specific date ( the day after) just to be told by the operator a few hours later that they don’t have tickets for Robben Island for that date and that the cable car to Table Mountain was not operating on that date because of maintenance. We had to deal with receiving the refund from Viator ourselves. They could have saved the disappointment and hassle by not selling tickets to a tour they could not give.

Response from the operator: Hi With all due respect all what you are saying is true. But take into consideration the fact that you booked a day before the tour for an attraction like Robben Island - a world heritage site. You do not get any tickets that close to Robben Island during that period you booked. It also was during the Netball World Cup and Robben Island tickets were sold out more than a weeks in advance. This was the first time that Cape Town has hosted the Netball world Cup and as such no one would have been able to predict the turnout. And as for Table Mountain communication was send to all those who had bought tickets online assuming you had booked in advance and we had bought you a ticket things could have been different. But since you booked a day before notice was already out that Table Mountain would be closed for annual shutdown maintenance. All these events and attractions are totally out of our control considering how they work. We sincerely apologize for the missed opportunity to visit these two world class attractions and would urge you to book again in time so you can enjoy the experience.

    A Must

Anyone visiting Cape Town should take the opportunity to visit where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, very moving. Our guide was a prisoner here with Mandela and he explained what life was like during the time he was there. Unfortunately for us the weather changed and we couldn’t go up the mountain, looked ok but when you reach the top the wind is very dangerous, there’s always next time. Highly recommended.

Response from the operator: Hello Wilson Indeed Robben Island is an essential place to visit as well as the iconic Table Mountain. We appreciate your understanding in the case of Table Mountain as nature made the conditions challenging to embark on the journey up the mountain. See you next time!!

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cape Town.

How much does Table Mountain, Robben Island & Bo-Kaap Tour All Tickets Included cost?

    +

Prices start at R 2,800 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cape Town usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Table Mountain, Robben Island & Bo-Kaap Tour All Tickets Included take?

Is Table Mountain, Robben Island & Bo-Kaap Tour All Tickets Included worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 15 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cape Town, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Table Mountain, Robben Island & Bo-Kaap Tour All Tickets Included?

    +

Is Table Mountain, Robben Island & Bo-Kaap Tour All Tickets Included suitable for kids and families?

How far in advance should I book Table Mountain, Robben Island & Bo-Kaap Tour All Tickets Included?

    +

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cape Town can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cape Town and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Cape Town?

    +

On Outty we rank every Cape Town experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Cape Town: Lion's Head Sunrise/Sunset Hike, Hike Table Mountain or Lions Head in Cape Town Like a Local, Cape Point and Boulder's Penguins Full Day Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cape Town?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cape Town?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
