The archeological sites at the coast of Porto Cesareo tell us about a local history that was intimately bound to the rest of the Mediterranean. Indeed, the archeological remains that we will see will lead us to consider the relationships with other parts of the basin and to talk about ancient navigation, the “marble route” coming from the Aegean and deities coming from ancient Egypt. In addition, it will appear clear the relevance of physical geography shaping local history. Thus, we will talk about the main features of the Mediterranean Basin, the evolution of coastal topography and geomorphological processes. After describing and talking about the history of modern and contemporary buildings that we will see, we will try to reconstruct the evolution of the coastal landscape and the destruction of the coastal ecosystems. This tour is recommended for archeology, history, geography and culture enthusiasts, naturalists, swimmers, active tourists and adventure seekers.

Superlative experience!
This was a fantastic and one-of-a-kind experience. An interesting and dynamic activity that immediately captivated our two children, aged 17 and 12. Essential for understanding not only the Porto Cesareo area, but all of Salento. Doing this experience is like visiting an open-air museum with the possibility of moving between one artifact and another by sea or by land. Mauricio, our guide, is a person with a very broad culture who moves from one topic to another with surprising ease but with a humility that only people who truly know things possess. With him, we immediately created a rapport that allowed us to structure the excursion to our liking. Excursions of this type should be more numerous. Truly well done! Silvia, Leonardo, Massimiliano, and Olga from Pisa

History, sea and passion: Salento told by Mauricio
A really great experience! 🌊 A path rich in history and stories, immersed in the authentic beauty of the Salento sea. The water was crystal clear and with a perfect temperature, even on September 22. The buoys provided by Mauricio allow you to rest at any time, making the experience pleasant and safe. What really makes the difference is the knowledge and passion that Mauricio puts into his work: he manages to convey enthusiasm and love for his land in every detail. Highly recommended!

Among the secrets of the sea
This is a guided tour that is undoubtedly out of the box and, for this reason, worth experiencing. An immersion in the literal sense of the term between geography of the territory and ancient history, but this time kept on the seabed near Porto Cesareo: a seabed accessible to anyone, even the less experienced swimmers. Thanks to Mauricio, guide and creator of this excursion between sea and land, we discovered hidden, unknown realities... we came into direct contact with a place attentive to university research for its precious value and charm. Roman civilization and, with it all the greatest civilizations of the ancient world, will never cease to amaze us as well as give us beautiful emotions.

How far in advance should I book Swimming and Coastal Tour of Archeological Sites at Porto Cesareo?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lecce can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+

What are the best things to do in Lecce?
+
On Outty we rank every Lecce experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 3 hours - Boat Tour to the Caves of Santa Maria di Leuca, Understand Lecce: History & Local Stories | Small Group Tour, Tour to 4 Towns of Salento: Otranto, Leuca, Gallipoli, Galatina. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Lecce?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Lecce?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
