Best surf expletive I’ve had in Tamarindo!
Gino was absolutely incredible and hands down one of the highlights of our trip to Tamarindo! From the moment we met him, he was warm, patient, encouraging, and so much fun. He has a way of making you feel completely comfortable in the water while also giving you the confidence to push yourself and actually get up and surf! His energy is contagious, and you can tell how much he genuinely loves what he does. We laughed, learned a ton, and had the BEST time. It felt less like a lesson and more like spending the afternoon surfing with a friend who happens to be an amazing instructor. If you’re coming to Tamarindo and want to learn to surf, ask for Gino or Yury—you will not regret it. We will book with Nimbu Yumbo again in a heartbeat!
Response from the operator: Dear Katie I have no words to describe reading this beautiful review that you took the time to write and leave for us, it means the world to support my local community and for everyone to enjoy this experience, surfing with the locals and learn from their experience and also enjoy the Costa Rican surf culture. 🇨🇷 I saw one of your waves and it was pretty amazing to see within 2 session how you went back 11 years ago when you used to do it every day. Until next time. Mis amigos Pura vida!🌊🏄♂️🏄♀️🫶

Summer 2026
Yury and her crew were amazing from the start. She answered my questions promptly and was such a delight to work with. She was very patient with our group that had varying skill level across several ages. She surprised us with some local treats at the end which made the whole experience so special. We would recommend her to friends and utilize her services again if we are back in the area. Thank you Yury for providing everlasting memories for me and my family.

Personable surfing experience
My husband and I wanted to surf at the world famous Tamarindo Beach and we were coming from the Papagayo area. Yury was very responsive with all my emails and questions, she gave us a very specific time and address for a meeting point for our surfing lesson, I really appreciated all the coordination and clear communication. She gave us the option to book a photographer as well for the session which was terrific and he showed up on time as well. Fabian was a great instructor. I have had a few in the past and he was incredible at reading the waves and giving us clear instructions on how to catch the waves. He gave me tips and pointers on my form. He was such a great instructor that my husband was able to catch his very first wave and ride it all the way to the beach! At the end, we were given cool fresh coconuts and Yury helped find us showers and a place to change! We highly recommend this very personable surfing school! Thank you Yury for a wonderful experience!

Wonderful experience- thank you!
We had the best experience with Nimbu Yumbu surf school! I went up to Yury on the beach after she and another teacher finished a lesson and asked about getting one for my 8 year old son. We exchanged numbers and it was very easy to set things up. Coach Fabian met us on the beach for a 90 minute lesson. He was so wonderful with my son, very warm and helped him catch many waves! What I was most glad about was how watchful Fabian was if my son fell off the board and was still in the waves, Fabian was there in a second and made sure he didn’t get tossed around (he’s a good swimmer but some of the waves are rough). Afterwards he gave my son and my daughter each a fresh coconut. 10/10!! Highly recommend! Pura Vida 🫶🏼
Response from the operator: Dear Lorena Thanks for taking the time to write this really beautiful review I can see the gratitude. Fabian is an amazing coach and person and we are glad that George had a wonderful time learning from Fabian who grew up in the ocean, now sharing his passion Until next time Pura Vida 🏄♂️🇨🇷🌊

Great surf experience with Nimbu Yumbu!
For our first trip to CR, my two teen boys and I booked a surfing lesson with Nimbu Yumbu. We had an excellent time with Yury and Daniel. They were fun, safe, and so encouraging to us as absolute beginners. We all got up on our boards the first day! My normally too cool for school teens were smiling the whole time and we booked a second lesson the next day. I highly recommend Yury and her team, they are great teachers!
Response from the operator: Hello from sunny Costa Rica ! 🇨🇷 Thank you so much, my dear for taking the time to leave a review, sharing about your experience, learning and surfing with us We had a wonderful time together thank you so much for coming back the next day for another session. Until next time you guys visit, Pura Vida! 🏄♀️🏄♂️🏄♂️🏄♂️🇨🇷🫶

Surfing with Locals at Tamarindo Beach: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tamarindo.
How much does Surfing with Locals at Tamarindo Beach cost?
+
Prices start at $65 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tamarindo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Surfing with Locals at Tamarindo Beach take?
+
Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tamarindo is not rushed.
Is Surfing with Locals at Tamarindo Beach worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 28 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tamarindo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Surfing with Locals at Tamarindo Beach?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Surfing with Locals at Tamarindo Beach suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Surfing with Locals at Tamarindo Beach?
+
Around 10 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tamarindo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tamarindo and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Surfing with Locals at Tamarindo Beach start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tamarindo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tamarindo?
+
On Outty we rank every Tamarindo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Surf Lesson in Tamarindo - Stand Up or Your Money Back!, Sunset Catamaran & Snorkeling Tour in Playa Flamingo, Fundive Catalina Islands (2 dives, only for certified divers). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tamarindo?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tamarindo?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
What is included in Surfing with Locals at Tamarindo Beach?
+
Included: Outdoor shower to wash off after your lesson; Bottled water; Rash guard for your lesson; Snacks; and Surfboard suitable for your level. Not included: Surf Photography. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.

+
