Temple well worth seeing and very pretty peninsula for sunset

The Temple of Poseidon is an amazing site and well worth seeing. The sunsets supposedly spectacular, but it was so cold and windy when we went that we did not stay for the sunset. We were happy to see this important temple if only now in ruins. Our private tour was in a comfortable van and cost 200 euros in cash with initial 50 paid as deposit. It gets very crowded and in my opinion, way too many people are allowed in and it impacts the enjoyment of everyone. The 20 pp euro to enter the Temple seems like an unnecessary money grab. It takes about an hour 15 min from Athens and about 1 hour back - we stopped at a decent looking restaurant on the water for the sunset and to have a drink but even though this is a popular scenic driver, there are very few good choices for dinner or drinks on the route. All in all, our private tour felt like we were being spoiled and our guide was prompt, polite and informative, but if doing it again, I would opt for the group bus rides at a fraction of the cost, varying from $18 to $35 pp plus temple entry. Book early as they get sold out.
