About this experience
This green historic paradise is flanked by the World Heritage Site of Humayun’s Tomb (Above) on the South and the historic Purana Qila (Below) on the North. The ruins now nicely maintained were built during the early Mughal era in 16th Century. Later the nursery along with the ruins were established in the early 20th century to be used as a place for propagating trees and other plants to be used in the new capital city, and also for testing species brought from other parts of India and from abroad and only those were selected which successfully thrive in Delhi’s harsh climate. Now the lush greenery among the historical ruins make it a perfect spot for history buffs who love to explore heritage among green settings.

Sunday @ Sunder Nursery: Walk & Farmers Market
If you’re looking for a relaxed, authentic experience in Delhi away from crowds and traffic, the Sunday walk at Sunder Nursery is truly special. This tour feels less like sightseeing and more like stepping into how locals spend their perfect weekend morning. The experience begins with a gentle walk through one of Delhi’s most beautifully restored heritage parks. Wide tree-lined pathways, Mughal-era monuments, birdsong and peaceful lotus ponds create a calm atmosphere that’s very different from the busy city outside. The guide shares stories about the history, architecture and the transformation of this space into a model for urban sustainability. It’s slow, unhurried and perfect even for non-walkers. One of the highlights is stepping inside the stunning domed tombs and seeing the intricate carvings and sunlight filtering through the lattice windows. Along the way you’ll see locals practicing yoga, families enjoying picnics and—if you’re lucky—even peacocks wandering through the gardens. It feels like discovering a hidden side of Delhi that many tourists miss. The experience becomes even more memorable when the Sunday farmers market begins. The atmosphere shifts into a lively, colourful gathering of farmers, home chefs and artisanal producers. You can browse organic vegetables, fresh breads, handmade products and regional specialties while chatting directly with the people who grow and make them. Watching local women cook fresh dishes on-site adds a warm, community feel, and tasting the food is mornings highlight. This tour is perfect for travellers who enjoy slow travel, culture, food and nature. It’s relaxed, meaningful and offers a genuine slice of Delhi life beyond monuments and museums. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a unique Sunday experience in the city.

Discovering Sunder Nursery: walking tour
On April 4, a Saturday, I took the Sunder Nursery Delhi’s Heritage Gardens Walking Tour with Jai Singh from the Discover Activities tour service. Both the tour guide and the driver showed up on time. Although we had an amusing missed high five moment when I went directly outside to the porch to meet them, but the Jai the guide already went inside to meet me at the front entrance. After we had a good laugh about this, off we went to the Sunder Nursery. The car was very comfortable, a good size, and clean. On the way to the nursery, Jai asked me some questions about my stay to get a better feel about what information to tell on the tour. I appreciated how he continued this throughout the morning to include items I was more interested in (the natural wildlife of the nursery, history, etc). This process felt like a natural conversation, and I didn’t realize it until I reflected upon the tour. Along the way, driving through the diplomatic district, he pointed out various murals, compounds, and even told me that the buses are free for women in New Delhi. All very interesting and useful information. The guide dropped us both off near the nursery entrance and we walked over. Something I would not have known as a tourist is that the ticket counter sell multiple levels of tickets. One for the nursery, but also two others for the museum and tomb. If I had just taken a taxi there myself I would not have known to emphasize that I only needed a nursery ticket. The ticket is required to enter the nursery. Our journey started in the nursery with a brief introduction and him explaining what the various buildings were inside (hotel-like structures for traveling salesmen and their hoofed companions). He took us off to a side path route to better get to see the various birds in the area. I was quite impressed with his ability to spot the wildlife in the park, while also keeping track of me gawking at everything, and relaying pertinent information to the tour. I can’t believe all the birds he spotted: an ibis, hornbill, kingfisher, peacocks, pigeons, babblers, black robins, snake eating raptors, and also the more common black kites, pigeons, doves, myna, and parakeets. While this wasn’t a bird watching tour specifically, I was still appreciative of all the knowledge he had on the subject. He also included some older mythology within the tour, like explaining the belief that a crow who hangs around you for too long is a deceased relative who couldn’t move on and wanted to check in on you. We paused to watch a black robin couple build a nest, as well as later on we sat by a fountain to watch a black kite break up a crow gang fight happening in the sky. Both times, he was able to interpret the situation and ask to stay for a little bit to watch events unfold. I would not have known what was going on and probably would have missed both events. I could really tell he loved and appreciated nature. There is a cafe area in the Sunder Nursery as well and a coffee and ice cream stand. I wasn’t particularly thirsty or hungry, but he did ask if I wanted to stop, if I needed to drink, etc along our tour through the nursery. I believe it is the little things like those check ins that change an okay tour to a good one. I also enjoyed his sense of humor. He would create interpreted dialogue between the birds interacting with each other that I found quite humorous. For example, babblers verbally squawk when they’re close together and he created a back and forth between them. He also gently poked fun at all the young couples going on dates in the nursery. Similar to how a dad would want to lightly needle his kids and their friends. One highlight of the trip were him telling me about an older Indian horror movie called Veerana. I had to take a work call during the trip and while I was on the phone he took video of the old mosque ruins. Afterwards he showed me the video that played the song of the Veerana movie. It implied that the ruins were haunted. We had a fun laugh at that. Since he noticed I also love nature, he recommended some areas relatively nearby that I would potentially enjoy. One is Rishikesh; it is north of North Delhi. Another spot was Manali. Both areas were cooler this time of year as well and likely a more comfortable temperature. Another spot in near the city, but still had a sense of the wild would be the Lost City. Overall, I had a fabulous time at the nursery and being guided by Jai. I would highly recommend booking with him either through a tour site or through the Discover Activities company. He obviously loves what he does, is very knowledge, charismatic, and care about people and nature. That type of spirit turns a good tour to a great one. It’s something you can’t buy.

Great host and beautiful day trip
My guide Jai Singh of Discover India Tours was an outstanding tour operator. I was especially grateful to how easy he was to communicate with before I started my trip. Really set a positive tone even before I was picked up by the driver. The tour of the Nursery was really wonderful. But after Jai found out I was interested in Indian birds, he took me to the nearby Lodhi Gardens with centuries old mausoleums among the woodlands and gardens. A perfect day for my first experience in India.

Why this scores 71
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Sunder Nursery Delhi's Heritage Garden Walk Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for New Delhi.
How much does Sunder Nursery Delhi's Heritage Garden Walk Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $8 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in New Delhi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Sunder Nursery Delhi's Heritage Garden Walk Tour take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in New Delhi is not rushed.
Is Sunder Nursery Delhi's Heritage Garden Walk Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in New Delhi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Sunder Nursery Delhi's Heritage Garden Walk Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Sunder Nursery Delhi's Heritage Garden Walk Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Sunder Nursery Delhi's Heritage Garden Walk Tour?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in New Delhi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in New Delhi and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Sunder Nursery Delhi's Heritage Garden Walk Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central New Delhi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in New Delhi?
+
On Outty we rank every New Delhi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Taj Mahal & Agra Private Tour By AC Car From Delhi with 5* Meal, Taj Mahal & Agra Fort Private Day Trip From Delhi with 5* Lunch, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Baby Taj Day Tour from Delhi by Car. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit New Delhi?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in New Delhi?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
