Great Tour of St. Peters' Basilica and Dome! Do not miss to climb the Dome!
We booked this tour with Real Barcelona Tours for St. Peter's Basilica and its Dome. With our guide Laura we did skip the long line and went through security quite fast. The Basilica of St. Peter is amazing and we loved our storytelling guide that told us the secrets hidden in the art work. We saw the Pieta of Michelangelo and the Pope Tombs. We reserved tickets saving more than an hour line we went also up to the Dome and enjoyed a fantastic view of Rome, we felt like to be on top of the world! It is a must to go on top of the Dome if you go to visit St. Peter's Basilica. Do not miss the Dome climbing even if you climb over 300 steps!

Quick Entrance to St. Peter's Basilica with Vivicos - Must See!
We used Vivicos’ Fast Check-in Service for St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican and it was certainly the best decision we made. Comfort and time saved are worth every euro. Priority access that DOES work: Queues to enter St. Peter’s Basilica are legendary and can easily exceed 2-3 hours waiting in the sun. Thanks to Vivicos tickets, we accessed through a special channel and saved a tiring wait. We're in within minutes. It was an amazing feeling to walk past a queue of hundreds of people. Seamless process: The online booking on their website was very clear and simple. We received the tickets in the mail immediately, with a PDF that included all the instructions: map, meeting point and time. The staff of Vivicos in the area was waiting for us, was very friendly and indicated exactly which way to enter, dispelling any doubts. Libertad total: This is not a guided tour. It is the perfect entrance for the independent traveler. Once inside, we were able to explore the majestic basilica at our own pace: marvel at Michelangelo’s Piety, climb the dome for the best views of Rome and photograph Bernini’s Baldaquin without any hurry. Professionalism: The whole process was extremely professional. There were no surprises or problems. They delivered exactly as promised: fast and effective entry.

This is NOT fast-track entrance. We spent 2 hours in line 😡. Check the fine print before booking!!
We paid for a guided tour with access to the dome on Sunday June 8. We left their office as a group of 33 and walked the short distance to St. Peter’s Square for our guided tour. What we missed in the small print was that this did not give us fast track access. We stood in line with hundreds (no kidding) of other people who were all pushing and shoving to get closer to the head of the very very very long line. We were crowded together like cattle and it was extremely hot that day. After almost 2 hours (yes I said 2 HOURS!) we finally made it through the security checkpoint to join the others in our group who had been separated by the rude shoving crowd of tourists. We started out with 33 people. Only 10 remained in our group to actually start the tour. The other 23 gave up and left. Once we got in the guide was good and informative. We would have never have signed up for this if we wouldn’t have had quick access. Every other tour we had in Italy had fast track entry. We were so incredibly disappointed in the experience that I’m not sure I would book with this company again.

Why this scores 60
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
St Peter's Basilica, Papal Tombs Tour, optional Dome: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.
How much does St Peter's Basilica, Papal Tombs Tour, optional Dome cost?
+
Prices start at $38 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does St Peter's Basilica, Papal Tombs Tour, optional Dome take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.
Is St Peter's Basilica, Papal Tombs Tour, optional Dome worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule St Peter's Basilica, Papal Tombs Tour, optional Dome?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is St Peter's Basilica, Papal Tombs Tour, optional Dome suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book St Peter's Basilica, Papal Tombs Tour, optional Dome?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does St Peter's Basilica, Papal Tombs Tour, optional Dome start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rome?
+
Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rome?
+
April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rome?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
