Lost in Sorrento! On a personal tour.
Our tour driver was so supposed to Speak English which we was not able to speak very well. Very limited and hard to understand. But the worst part about this trip was not being able to find our driver Alex who was parked in a parking lot in Sorrento. We had a set meeting time but couldn’t find our way back from the Piazza Tasso. It took an hour to finally get him to walk to us and meet us to walk back to the car. It was a very scary experience being in an unfamiliar city and not speaking Italian. Alex the driver was not and did not want to try to find us. He just sat in his van and said it was easy to find him. We were standing in the Plazza Tasso for at least 45 minutes. And he said we were 1 minute away from the parking lot but never told us what street the parking lot was on. So we were an hour late to start driving to Positano and had a short visit there. Our personal driver and tour guide was Alex and did not tell us anything about the 2 towns or anything while we were driving 3 hours each way in the car. What kind of personal tour was this? Very expensive tour and so sorry that we did this tour. It would of been better on a tour bus. I would have learn a lot more and it would be a lot less expensive.
Response from the operator: Good morning, for the sake of fairness we wanted to spare ourselves comments on your behavior, but since you had the courage to write, we will gladly answer you. We respect all our guests and it is a pleasure to offer our best, at least we try in every sense. First of all, the chosen tour includes an English-speaking driver but not a tour guide as you expected, the driver can only give general, orientation and important information about the cities, all this is detailed at the time of booking. The day before yesterday when you arrived in Sorrento with Alessandro as a driver, you parked together (less than 100 meters) from the main square: Piazza Tasso, then Alessandro walked you to the square and explained where you can go to visit (pedestrian areas), the main shopping and souvenir street, the Cathedral, the tourist port, which start from Piazza Tasso (just go forward and back and you return to the square), this large square is the center of the city and offers a beautiful view towards the sea, also the day before yesterday there was a 20 meter high Christmas tree beautifully decorated; finally Alessandro gave you directions and told you twice (the first time was at the parking lot: after the visit we'll see each other here, I'll wait for you here at the parking lot), go and go back to the square and then go to the parking lot, I'll wait for you there thanks!. So it's impossible to get lost and not know how to get back but the worst is not remembering the meeting point at 12.00, nothing out of this world, it was a very simple thing, something like this has never happened in more than 23 years but not even with guests who don't speak a word of English. At 12.17 and 12.40 Alessandro (after much thought) went to the square to look for you and you were not there, and around 12.45 we started calling you from our office and also Alessandro from his cell phone, and here too we found another "curiosity": while you were talking to Alessandro you were not able to give precise directions to be helped and Alessandro could not come and look for you at random because the situation would have become even more complicated (it was time to think in the best way to resolve), then Alessandro asked you to pass the phone to anyone to ask for precise information about your location and here was the surprise: The girl at the shop told Alessandro that Piazza Tasso was 50 meters away and that from that point you could clearly see the square (incredible, you just had to take 2 steps and stretch your neck) so it was very simple to get back to the parking lot, even though you called Alessandro 2 more times to tell her that you did not remember anything and consequently you could not find the way back, at that point point Alessandro went to Piazza Tasso (less than 100 meters) to meet you and found you at the beginning of the parking lot, 50 meters from the meeting point, absurd! in practice 1 hour later. Sorrento is not Rome, Paris or New York, the center of the city of Sorrento is a small neighborhood, full of small shops and restaurants, where on one side there is the sea and on the other side the houses, and in the month of November (low season) there are few people, it is very easy to explore. You dear customers are adults but Alessandro saw you in excellent physical shape, unbelievable that you are very distracted to the point of having lost all orientation in a small city. I must say that, in the office already at the time of booking we noticed some "uncertainty" because you booked and canceled 2/3 times the same tour for the same day, that the day before the tour we did not know if the reservation was still active or not? we had to call Viator to ask for information and confirmation. Greetings

Why this scores 45
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Sorrento and Positano: Amalfi Coast Luxury Private Tour from Rome: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.
How much does Sorrento and Positano: Amalfi Coast Luxury Private Tour from Rome cost?
+
Prices start at $541 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Sorrento and Positano: Amalfi Coast Luxury Private Tour from Rome take?
+
Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.
Is Sorrento and Positano: Amalfi Coast Luxury Private Tour from Rome worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 45 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3/5 across 2 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Sorrento and Positano: Amalfi Coast Luxury Private Tour from Rome?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Sorrento and Positano: Amalfi Coast Luxury Private Tour from Rome suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Sorrento and Positano: Amalfi Coast Luxury Private Tour from Rome?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Sorrento and Positano: Amalfi Coast Luxury Private Tour from Rome start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rome?
+
Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rome?
+
April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rome?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
