An unforgettable adventure
It was an AMAZING DRIVE full of beautiful scenery on BOTH sides of the road. Abundant wildlife and walks alongside the Pacific Coast were memories that won’t fade away soon. The narrator of the trip made reference to much of what we passed by and gave valuable insights, historical information and fun trivia that made the drive PERFECT! I would add that when you get close to Big Sur you begin an 80 +/- drive with no cell service (80 miles with 25-35 mph speed limits).
Response from the operator: Thank you for the 5⭐ review! It’s wonderful to hear the Big Sur drive left such a lasting impression and that the narration helped bring the journey to life with insights and stories. We also appreciate you pointing out the long stretch without cell service — it’s a helpful tip for anyone planning the same adventure. The manual narration trigger option, explained in the tutorial, is useful during those low‑signal sections to ensure nothing gets missed. Thanks again for sharing your experience with us!

Doesn’t work without reception on your phone
The app worked well when we were in cellphone coverage, and I did download the entire trip from Santa Maria to Monterey ahead of time. When we lost cell signal (which was for over 2 hours, half the trip) I couldn’t access the app to play the trip from where we were. We didn’t close the app but we did switch to the radio in between the locations and it kept signing us out and we had to log back in. So we missed half of the trip, it was very disappointing. The stuff we did hear was interesting, I wish the whole thing had worked.
Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the parts of the tour you were able to listen to. The tour is fully available offline once it’s downloaded. Landscapes like steep cliffs or limited sky view are some of the external factors that impact GPS signal - which will make the narration stop automatically playing. The Troubleshooting Tips at the beginning of the tour explain how to manually play the narration if GPS reception drops along the way. We’re sorry this interrupted your experience, and we appreciate you taking the time to let us know.

A little information and Dad Jokes
Good info, but would’ve liked more. Dad Jokes were silly, great for families.
Response from the operator: Thanks so much for the 4 stars! We’re glad you enjoyed the drive and the mix of local info along the way. We keep the narration timed to the route so guests don’t miss any of the viewpoints or POIs as they’re driving, especially along the Big Sur coastline. The dad jokes definitely lean into the family‑friendly vibe, and it’s great to hear they landed for you. Thanks for taking the tour with us!

Why this scores 57
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Smartphone Driving Tour between Santa Maria & Monterey 'Big Sur': questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Pismo Beach.
How much does Smartphone Driving Tour between Santa Maria & Monterey 'Big Sur' cost?
+
Prices start at $12 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Pismo Beach usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Smartphone Driving Tour between Santa Maria & Monterey 'Big Sur' take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Pismo Beach is not rushed.
Is Smartphone Driving Tour between Santa Maria & Monterey 'Big Sur' worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.7/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Pismo Beach, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Smartphone Driving Tour between Santa Maria & Monterey 'Big Sur'?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Smartphone Driving Tour between Santa Maria & Monterey 'Big Sur' suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Smartphone Driving Tour between Santa Maria & Monterey 'Big Sur'?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Pismo Beach can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Pismo Beach and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Smartphone Driving Tour between Santa Maria & Monterey 'Big Sur' start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Pismo Beach within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Pismo Beach?
+
Pismo Beach, CA packs its best experiences into walkable neighborhoods, local food, and day trips nearby. Outty ranks every bookable tour and activity in Pismo Beach by rating quality, review depth, booking demand and value, so you can see the standouts before you book. On Outty we rank every Pismo Beach experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Pismo Beach, California, Surf Lessons, 1-Hour Electric Bike Rental Pismo Beach, Guided E-Bike Tour of Pismo Beach, Shell Beach and Avila Beach. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Pismo Beach?
+
Spring and fall bring the best weather and lighter crowds in Pismo Beach, while summer has the widest choice of tours and evening activities. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Pismo Beach?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
