This is a fabulous insight into architecture over the centuries

Our tour guide was Rodrigo and he knew so much and was just loaded with information that was fabulous. The houses were incredibly magnificent and so different. It was a great tour and it’s wonderful to see how the other half lived. We highly recommend this tour.

Response from the operator: Happy to learn you have enjoyed and appreciated the history and value behind the sites visited. Rodrigo as well as all the team send our thanks!

Worst tour ever. Doesn't worth your money

I was considering if to write a review or not, because normaly I write when I have something postive to say. This is not the case, and hope to be a lesson for the organiser, and to be seen by other tourists like us which would have considered the visit. The guide was polite, so this is not a personal review. It's dedicated to the tour which is doesn't worth the money. 1. It supposed to be 4 houses, but we seen only 3 with no explanation. 2. All the houses are publicly open and located in the old area of the city; you can visit them during the daily schedule. 3. The young girl who was our guide, as nice she was, she was not prepared for this job. Nothing about the history of the houses. We learned more from the museums curators (because YES, these houses are museums). We didn't feel that we have somenone specialized with us, with whome to talk. This is what we wanted. As a background, because perhaps you will identify some common aspects: we are a couple in our early 40s used to travel by ourselves around the world. When we take a tour, we choose something that we couldn't see by ourselves alone. We always want to understand the local people, their history and culture. The grow wiser from each experience. We are not rich, so paying this amount of money for 3h felt disapppointing to the level of a scam:(. I really didn't want to leave this review, but hopefully someone else will see it and she/he will not take the same decision like us.

Response from the operator: Hello Simona, and thank you again for your sincere feedback and time. First of all sorry you felt "to the level of a scam" I really feel that word is very dissapointing for us and we feel very bad 😵‍💫😞 because we have designed and organized this, and promote these routes with all our hearts and profesionalism. I talked with Leidy, your guide about this. I must say before I continue, that this tour was booked one day ahead, which leaves us with very little time to look for best guides as best guides are always booked well in advance. Besides it was Fathers day which made my search even more difficult. :( Leidy as you said, she is good, but maybe it was not at the level you would have liked in this specific tour. I will go point by point. About money... you pay US$60pp. The vehicle charges US$33. The guide US$48. Entrance to Casa Aliaga US$10 per person. Entrance to Casa Fernandini $5, minus bank costs and commissions. Leaving us basicallly no profit at all. We offer this route because we belief the houses are interesting and nobody promotes as we do, and some day more travellers can value this route. I have checked again the website of Viator and it is offered like this: Tour details *Total Duration: 3 - 30 minutes Casa de Aliaga, Jiron de la Union 224, Lima 15001 Peru, 30 minutes House of Osambela, Jiron Conde de Superunda 298, Lima Peru, 30 minutes Avenida Federico Fernandini, Av. Federico Fernandini, Callao, Peru, 30 minutes RESTAURANTE CORDANO, Jr. Áncash 202, Lima 15001, Peru, 30 minutes.* It details.. 3.30 minutes.. not 4 hours.. It details Casa Osambela, but instead of Casa Osambela, we enter now to Casa OHiggins as Osambela is now closed. We must change it should say Casa Fernandini (not Federico Fernandini). It says Restauratne Cordano for coffee, but now we taste Pisco in a colonial house near the Government Palace. I must apologize for this as we need to update this replacements in the app of Viator. Only Casa Ohiggins is publicly open. Casa Fernandini, i must coordinate with the housekeeper, Moises, who I understand guided the house. Casa Aliaga, I also coordinated with the worker there in charge of the security. These two we must coordinate in advance. Casa Aliaga doesnt allow any traveller to enter without an official guide. An official guide charges minimum $48 hours per a minimum tour of 3 hours. Leidy confessed me that she had never visited Casa Fernandini I and said to her, that no problem, as Moises usually guides the house. Leidy confirmed the tour after I asked other 8 guides but all of the rest were busy or were not able to confirm... The idea of us to work all this is to facilitate the traveller and makes things easier for them. Coordinate a safe and trustful vehicle/driver. Have a guide that is professional (guides are plenty, but with the official certifications and good background... not all of them...) take you to places that maybe can take you longer to look. Maybe the stop to have pisco, you would not have noticed easily... or the coordinations with each house, etc. our job as tour operators is to make it easier and trustful for the travelers, making things easier and relaxed. Maybe we didnt do profit of money now, but we are learning and I appreciate your feedback. Leidy is also sending her appreciation and she is also learning and we will focus more on giving the right information and correct. I will correct now in Viator the details of Fernandini and the pisco spot. We wish all good travels for you. If you are still in Peru, just let me know if I can be of help for anything, I have visited all Peru and keep visiting all the time areas and know a lot. It is my passion to give the best to travellers. All the best,

Wonderful introduction to Lima.

What a wonderful experience we had on our tour. Andy, our guide, and Oscar our driver arrived early to ensure we left on time. Andy’s English skills were excellent and he was able to tell us about all the downtown sites. We stopped by the pyramid first, then moved on to the beautiful olive district, then we went to historic downtown. Andy was sensitive to what we were interested in, and went above and beyond in also helping us find a place o exchange money (at a better rate than other places offering to exchange money). We were very lucky to have a private tour, and the owner Cynthia was wonderful in ensuring the tour was exactly what we wanted.

Superb Experience on our Private tour of Lima!!!

We did a custom tour with Vanessa visiting the Larco Museum, San Francisco Monastery and Catacombs, Plaza de Armas and other sites along the way. Vanessa was awesome. She has 15 years experience and she was extremely knowledgeable. She was able to give us a feel of daily life of people who live in Lima. Our driver was very safe, which is important in Lima traffic. I would highly recommend Lima Mentor and Vanessa.

The guide has a lot of knowledge...

The guide has a lot of knowledge. But the time of the tour meant we got stuck in traffic and spent a lot of time in the car.

Small-Group Tour of Lima Private Homes: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Lima.

How much does Small-Group Tour of Lima Private Homes cost?

+

Prices start at $60 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Lima usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Small-Group Tour of Lima Private Homes take?

+

Plan for about 0.1 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Lima is not rushed.

Is Small-Group Tour of Lima Private Homes worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 47 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Lima, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Small-Group Tour of Lima Private Homes?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Small-Group Tour of Lima Private Homes suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 0.1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Small-Group Tour of Lima Private Homes?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lima can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lima and add a light layer if any part of the 0.1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Small-Group Tour of Lima Private Homes start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Lima within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Lima?

+

On Outty we rank every Lima experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Peruvian Cooking Class, Local Market Tour & Exotic Fruit Tasting, The Complete Lima Experience: History, Culture & Flavors, #1 Rated Lima Cooking Class: Make Ceviche, Causa & Pisco Sours!. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Lima?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Lima?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
