A Must-Do Wine Tour from Milan: Barolo, Alba, Truffles, and a Beautiful Family Winery
My wife and I booked this tour during our 10 year wedding anniversary trip to Milan, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our time in Italy. I’m usually not much of a bus tour person, but this was exactly what we were hoping for: an easy way to get out of Milan, see more of the region, and visit a local family run winery. The first time I ever had Barolo was on our honeymoon, so being this close to the Barolo area for our anniversary made this tour feel especially meaningful. We were lucky to have a smaller group. There were only 9 of us, even though the maximum is 15, which made the experience feel much more personal. Stefano, one of the winery owners, was our guide, and you could tell how much pride he has in the area, the wine, and the experience he provides. He shared a lot of history about the region along the way, gave us great recommendations, and even helped people with restaurant reservations. The day was really well planned. We started with the drive from Milan to a beautiful castle, where we had about an hour to explore. After that, we stopped in Alba and got an unexpected truffle tasting that was not originally included, which was such a great surprise. We had free time to walk around, find lunch, and enjoy the town before heading to the winery. The winery itself was absolutely beautiful. We were there during peak season, so it was great to see the winemakers working and to experience the place while everything was happening. We had plenty of tastings, a delicious welcome cocktail, and a much more authentic experience than I expected from a day tour. Also, Alberto, our driver, was excellent: professional, friendly, and clearly experienced. The bus was very comfortable, which mattered because it was extremely hot that day and the A/C was working perfectly. Overall, this tour was a great value and far exceeded our expectations. If you are staying in Milan and want a relaxed, personal, and memorable day in the wine country, I highly recommend booking with Stefano and his team.
