    Excellent for families

Angelica was amazing! We had five kids between the ages of 6-11 on the trip through the acropolis. She did a fantastic job keeping everyone together and engaged. The stories and history she gave were interesting for everyone. Meeting was easy and communication beforehand was great. I highly recommend this tour for families with kids between 5-13.

    Family friendly tour

We had the best time on our tour. We ranged in age from 2-65 years old and enjoyed the mythology background components of acropolis. Our guide did a good job of keeping everything interesting for the kids and adults. 10/10 recommend.

    Kid-friendly tour with...

Kid-friendly tour with plenty of information for adults as well. Very well paced as we made the walk up the hill to the Acropolis.

Great Experience in Athens and Delphi

We recently took two private family tours with Alternative Athens, and both were exceptional experiences. On our first day, we did the Mythological Tour, a fascinating walking tour of major historic sites like the Acropolis and Ancient Agora. It involved a fair amount of walking, but it was an incredible way to experience Athens up close. Our guide, Elena, was outstanding - deeply knowledgeable, engaging, and incredibly friendly. We were lucky to have Elena again for our second tour the following day, a day trip to Delphi to explore the ruins of the Temple of Apollo/Oracle. She made the journey fly by with thoughtful conversation, and once we arrived, she expertly guided us through both the museum and the archaeological site itself. Her passion and insight brought everything to life. We usually choose private tours because we value a more personal, meaningful experience - and this trip absolutely delivered. Thanks to Elena’s warmth, expertise, and dedication, our time in Athens and Delphi will be truly memorable. Highly recommend both Alternative Athens and Elena for anyone looking to go beyond the typical tourist experience.

    Too expensive, not children oriented

We booked the family friendly tour, but even though the place is amazing and the stories told during the tour were very interesting for adults, we would not suggested for families with young children because the explanations are very very long and somehow complicated. They play a game at the end, but I think the stories should be much more directed to children, more lively and short. Specially considering we are under a 38° sun and the place is very crowded. Then I would really suggest you buy your own tickets, there are a lot of discounted tickets and when bought through Alternative Athens, they just buy for you the adult ticket plus a fee (for them). We payed double the amount we should have payed and when we told them, they said they couldn't access the discounted fares but we think they should let you know that beforehand. Finally, we were very uncomfortable when we entered the Acrópolis and the tour guide just skiped the whole queue with the 15 of us, telling everyone that we had the earlier time slot (we should have met there earlier I guess). So overall the experience of the Acrópolis is amazing, but the tour is too expensive and it is just a regular adult tour.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you enjoyed the Acropolis and the stories, but we're sorry to hear the tour didn't fully meet your expectations as a family-friendly experience. We'll work on making our family tours more engaging and concise for younger audiences. Regarding the ticket pricing, we appreciate your input and will ensure clearer communication about options and fees moving forward. Skipping the queue is intended to keep the tour on schedule, but we’ll review our approach to improve the experience. Thanks again for your insights.

Small Group Athens Mythology Family Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Athens.

How much does Small Group Athens Mythology Family Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $54 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Athens usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Small Group Athens Mythology Family Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Athens is not rushed.

Is Small Group Athens Mythology Family Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 40 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Athens, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Small Group Athens Mythology Family Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Small Group Athens Mythology Family Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Small Group Athens Mythology Family Tour?

    +

Around 14 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Athens can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Athens and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Small Group Athens Mythology Family Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Athens within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Athens?

    +

On Outty we rank every Athens experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Athens Small Group E-Bike Tour, Small Group Greek Traditional Food Tour in Athens 20+ Tastings, Athens Scenic Bike Tour with Regular or Electric Bike + Acropolis. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Athens?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Athens?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
